With the present simple, we use


do/does before the subject:

Do/does + subject + verb

With the past simple, we use


did before the subject:
E.g.: Did you buy a car?
Did David eat the cake?

Note:
Questions with does:
The main verb is in the infinitive (loses the s)
because does already indicates the 3rd person
singular;
Questions with did:
The main verb is in the infinitive because did
already indicates the past.

E.g.: Does she play tennis?


NOT Does she plays tennis?

E.g.: Did she play tennis?


NOT Did she played tennis?
