Objective: Students will apply will apply knowledge of place value, addition and subtraction of whole numbers, and
multiplication of whole numbers to plan an itinerary for a family trip.
Students will calculate the costs of flights, hotel room options, and a meal plan for the familys vacation.
Students will analyze a variety of excursions to create a 3 day itinerary for the family. Excursion choices must
be reexamined to ensure the trip stays within a budget. Students will make sense of problems and persevere in
solving them. Students will choose the correct operation when solving.
Students will write a letter to the family outlining every aspect of their vacation including: flight, hotel room,
meal plan, and excursions. They must defend their decisions by using mathematical thinking and reasoning.
Students must reason abstractly and quantitatively in order to construct viable arguments.
