The road to Maseven

Unseen by the passers-by on the main roads passing , Ga-Malekane, Ngwaabe and the
traffic to Jane Furse, a new tarred road is under construction between Ngwaabe and
Maseven.
The exact route of the road runs basically from the the Jane Furse road (a couple of
kilometres after crossing the steel bridge from the R555) parrallel with the R555 until it
will join the R555 just after the bridge over the Steelpoort River when you travel from
Steelpoort.
The road, when completed, will not only improve access to the villiages on the route,
but it will also leaasen congestion of the one lane steel bridge.
What is important, the Greater Tubatse Business Forum (GTBF) says, is that the
contractor building the road MPRN Construction, is sub-contracting to local small
businesses from surrounding villages, and should be commended for their community
involvement. Chairman of the Forum, Mr Steve Mokota, says some of these small
businesses are members of the forum and they mainly supply labour for the stone
pitching at the new road. Mr Mokota says the success of the venture can be attributed to
the contractor’s egagement with a Community Liaisson Officer elected by members of the
community themselves.
He says structures in the community is very important and that they as the GTBF is
is more than comfortable in working with community structures such as ward committees
and councillors. He, however, said the role of the triditional leadership should be more
clearly defined with regard development and business development in rural areas, as it is
the GTBF’s experience that traditional leaders tend interfere where they have no
mandate, sometimes hampering development in their areas.
“We are glad that the case against us has been withdrawn, but we still do not have
services in our villages”.
That was the comment of a number of members of the Greater Tubatse Activists
Forum when they heard in the Magistrate’s Court in Burgersfort on Wednesday that
charges of intimidation against them has been withdrawn. The case stems from a the
individuals’ alleged conduct when they disputed the fact that the Greater Tubatse
Municipal Manager refused permission for a march they planned against service
delivery.
They allegedly threatened people, were disorderly and intimidated personnel in the
municipal building in Burgersfort. When they appeared in court on charges of
intimidation on Wednesday, the state prosecutor told the court that charges against
them have been withdrawn. No official reasons were given. The whole issue of the case
against them is also interlinked with their dissatisfaction about service delivery, an
interdict against them organising and marching in Burgersfort, as well as court action
by them setting aside the indertict after they marched illegally.
The group say they are still not satisfied and that they still plan protest action for
the future, because the plight of people in their villages has not improved.

Samancor, Eastern Chrome Mines (ECM) started with trade certificate training in
January 2007. These certificates are approved by the Mine Qualification Authority
(MQA). Nine students were recently awarded their trade certificates. The certificates
issued included 4 electricians, 3 fitters, 1 boiler maker and one diesel mechanic. Colin
Rieger from the Eastern Chrome Mines Training Centre makes use of Quaerito
Productivity Training to provide the classroom training for the trade certificates, whilst
he coordinates the practical training at the mines. The classroom training took thirteen
weeks per year for the last three years, whilst the balance were practical training. The
proud students qualified in October 2009 and were awarded their certificates in May
this year. They are the first group of successful learnerships at ECM issued with their
MQA trade certificates.

Area providing security services to various mines honoured their commitment to the orphans
cared for by the People Against the Spread of HIV Aids and Starvation (PASAS) in the

the public viewing area in Moroke.

made up for it by waving flags and

Unfortunately he did not finish this year due to an injury at the 20km mark of
the race. He ran with new running shoes and injured his ankle. He will
however attempt the race again next year.
He previously dedicated his race to Bafana Bafana and is very sad that he will
not be able to watch them play today. “I’ll be working from six to six” he said.
He however did his bit to encourage soccer as a sport and donated five soccer
balls to 39 children in Ga-Mampuru Village New Stands after seeing them play
with rolled-up plastic bags. He encourages everyone to start helping children

Western
Chrome
Mines
Tubatse Ferrochrome played netball and soccer against Western Chrome
Mines from Rustenburg on Saturday last week.
The games were played at Steelpoort Academy’s sports grounds. The action
started very late as the visitors had to negotiate the pothole riddled road
leading from Middelburg to Steelpoort via Roossenekal.
The soccer lost 0-2 to Western Chrome Mines and the netball lost 4-5 to
Western Chrome Mines.

Factory Shop retains tournament trophy

Factory Shop Burgersfort hosted a soccer
tournament on Saturday and Sunday last
week.
Eight teams competed in the event and the
team from Factory Shop defended the
floating trophy in the final against
Liverpool United.
The game was tough with it ending in a 1-1
draw resulting in extra time play.
During this time Factory Shop managed to
score and win the game. Afterwards the
teams enjoyed the prizegiving and braai.

The tickets that are up for grabs will be for the game between Algeria and Slovenia, the game

These games will be played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane at the new stadium in Nelspruit.

Entrants can get all the rules and regulations in store. One of the big rules though is that a person
must in possession of a green barcoded ID. This will be necessary for the registration of the prizes in the

Ohrigstad Stallions vs Mototolo mine
In a historic rugby game the Ohrigstad Stallions (playing in black and white) took on a team from Mototolo mine
(playing in red, black and yellow).
The game was the first in a very long time in Ohrigstad. The Stallions’ team had in fact not even practised together
before they took on the Mototolo team. The team consists of local residents and farmers. They played at Laerskool
Ohrigstad’s grounds and attrackted quite a few local supporters.
The Stallions unfortunately had three injuries within the team, but continued their determined play throughout the
game. The game ended 23-10 in favour of Mototolo mine. The Stallions are planning to play another game within two
weeks.
