Activities
Literature Circle Tasks
The teacher will lead a class discussion on the
different roles a reader can take while reading, including
asking questions, making connections, determining the
meaning of words, analyzing characters, and identifying
important passages. The teacher will write each of these
roles on separate pieces of chart paper, and record student
responses on what each role looks like.
The teacher will then pass out handouts for each
of the roles described above. The teacher will review each
handout and model how to complete the handouts
assigned tasks.
Assign First-Meeting Tasks and Create Calendar of Readings
Students will work within their literature circle
groups to first assign tasks to each member of their group,
and to create a calendar that includes what pages/chapters
need to be read by each due date.
Closure
Students will create goals for their first literature
circle meeting and share them with their group. The group
will then collaborate to create a shared goal within the
group.
