Doug Owens Gaining Ground on Mia Love in Utahs 4th District

DOUG OWENS GAINING GROUND ON MIA LOVE IN UT-04


Democratic challenger Doug Owens trails Republican incumbent Mia Love by 8 points in a DCCC poll of
likely general election voters conducted on October 20, 2016 in UT-04 (41% to 49%, with 9% undecided),
up by a net 2 points from a recent campaign poll. Owens has strong support among Independent voters
in the district, leading Love by 23 points among them.
In the presidential race, Hillary Clinton ties Evan McMullin with 29% of the vote, while Donald Trump trails
both by 8 points, earning just 21% of the vote.
Owens name ID is currently at 73%, and voters have a positive impression of him (+15 net, 44% fav, 29%
unfav).

DEMOCRATS ARE MORE ENTHUSIASTIC, OWENS LEADS LOVE BY 3 POINTS AMONG

On the Congressional level, 85% of registered


Democrats are enthusiastic, compared to 72%
of registered Republicans and 66% of
independents. Among voters who are extremely
enthusiastic about the Presidential election,
Owens leads Love by 3 points (47% to 44%).

year, while 16% are not at all enthusiastic. When
voters are asked the same about voting on the
Congressional elections, only 43% are extremely

Utah 4th Congressional district is a largely suburban (60.5%) district, mainly surrounding the southern
portions of Salt Lake City. 8.9% of voters are Hispanic/Latino and 27.8% are between the ages of 18-35.
Obama lost the district in 2012 (35.6%) and the latest DPI is 42.3%. Freshman Republican Mia Love is
running for reelection; she won 52.6% of the two-way vote in 2014 against Doug Owens.
Note: These results are based on a survey of 478 likely UT-04 2016 general election voters conducted by the
DCCC on October 20, 2016. Respondents information came from the voter file and respondents were
interviewed over the phone via either a live or an IVR (robo) survey. The margin of error is +/- 4.48%.
