Osmosis is the movement of water through a selectively permeable membrane from an area of lower solute concentration to higher solute concentration. In this experiment, gummy bears were placed in water, absorbing water through their membranes by osmosis, causing them to expand in both height and width over the course of 4 days as the water equalized concentrations on both sides of their membranes. Measurements show the gummy bears increased significantly in both dimensions as a result of absorbing water.

Osmosis, is a movement of solvent (water) going through selectively permeable
membrane to a higher concentration of solution that tries to equalize the concentration of solution on both sides of the membrane. Diffusion is a movment of particles from a higher concentration area to a lower to a higher concentrated area. The gummy bear went through the osmosis process absorbing the water through the permeable membrane (gummy bear) to eqaulize the concentration on both sides causing the gummy bear to expand.
