In Pursuit of an ASEAN Identity

MANILA On September 9 at the PNU Public and Alumni Relations Hall,


professors and students from the different member institutions of the South
Manila Educational Consortium (SMEC) converged for the Forum-Workshop
on the ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) Philosophy and
Identity. Dr. Ester B. Ogena, University President, formally started the
program with her Opening Remarks and was immediately followed by the
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary, Mr. Fortunato Dela
Pea, who delivered an inspirational message emphasizing the importance of
assimilating science and technology among the ASEAN member states. The
event was also graced by the presence of Dr. Jeremiah Joaquin of De La Salle
University Manila who presented a lecture on the ASEAN identity from a
philosophical perspective.

University - Manila, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Lyceum of the Philippines
University, Philippine Christian University, Philippine Normal UniversityManila, Philippine Women's University, Santa Isabel College Manila, St. Paul
University-Manila, St. Scholastica's College and University of the PhilippinesManila were among the participants of the forum.
