Evolution
Forourupcomingslabbuiltclayproject,IfoundmyselfratherconfusedonwhatI
wantedtocreate.Ithrewaroundideasoffollowingtheevolutionoflifethroughatree.Then
thinkingaboutthechangesintheskythroughthesun,moon,andeclipse.Itwasatthispointthat
IinsteaddecidedtothinkabouthowIwantthevesselstolooklike.Ilovetheideaofacleanand
geometricshape,soIdecidedtodosomethingoutsideofthenormintheclasssofarsquaring
offeachofthevasesthatImake.Whilefiguringthisout,IrealizedthatIjustfoundmyself
comingbackaroundtothesametheme,whichismoreofajourneyofsorts.Itisavery
commonandcomplexjourneythatweallmaycomethroughtimeandtimeagain.Startingoff
withthecalm,eventuallyhavingsomethingsprout,andeventuallythatsamesproutgrows
uncontrollably.Mythemeisonethatischeesyandthenstuffedwithmorecheeselove.[Insert
inaudibleew]Fornootherreasonthanbeingsappy,Idecidedtotakethisthemeanddoit
metaphoricallywiththegrowthofasaplinginbluegrass.Thesquareshapewillgofromaclean
cutrectangularprismtoaslightlywilderandmoresporadicshapewithasquarebase.Iplanon
incorporatingslipandglazewiththepieces,paintingwithmostlyblueandwhitetocreatethe
nighttimelook.Itwillstartoffwithacalmpictureofbluegrassinafield,leadingtothe
inclusionofthegrowthofthesaplinginthesecond,andthefinalgrowthinthelastvesselwitha
newviewofthesunrise.
