1. Purpose
This method of statement covers the procedure step by step to implement the correct practices
for Installation of Diesel Generator Set through the guide line contained herein so as to
ensure that the job execution complies with the requirements and serves the intended function
to satisfactory level.

4. Scope of Work
This procedure will define the method to be used to ensure that the Diesel generator set is
installed correctly and acceptable and shall conform to the Contract Documents and
Specification.

7. Removing exciting Diesel Generator

Demolish 1 1/2' approximately to the both sides of the door of the generator house.

Remove the exhaust ducts and above equipment accessories and hand over to the
NWS&DB Stores.

Remove other couplings, wire connections etc... isolate the generator in mechanically
and well on electrically.

Remove the anchor fasteners and allow the generator to slide to and fro.

Place temporally bedding using timber blocks around the existing concrete bed on
which the generator is placed.

Attach hooks from two sides and connect them with chain blocks. Slowly the unit will
be able to move on to the wooden blocks.

Carefully slide the unit up to the door and a boomed truck is brought to the place for
shifting the unit.

Slowly load the unit to the truck and shift it to the stores and hand over.

Modification to the concrete bed and floor and required.

After curing and other works settlements new generator will be brought to the site and
installation is followed.

8. Handling and Site Storage

On receipt of the Diesel Generator Set and accessories at site, necessary precautions
shall be taken for unloading, shifting & storage, as follows:-

Material Inspection Request should be raised for material verification upon delivery at
site.

DG set shall be stored in a covered / dry space at all the time and ensure no moisture
leaking inside. If unexpectedly moisten, immediate action must be taken to dry off.

DG set with accessories if any, received at site shall be inspected and ensured that the
materials are as per approved material specification.

Any discrepancies, damage etc., found will be notified and reported for further action.

Ensure all Equipment used at site are free from any damage or deformity of any kind.
Any minor damages observed shall be repaired suitably and in case if the repairs
could not be done properly, the Equipment are to be removed from site with required
arrangement.

9. Shifting the equipment from Storage to generator room.

After the activities under Civil construction procedures (leveling, foundation bolts
etc.) are completed the unit shall be loaded from the storage place, on a suitable
trailer, by a crane, to shift the DG set to room location.

The units shall be offloaded near the generator room, and shall be shifted on the
respective foundations on rollers, to take DG set from outside to inside.

Proper care to secure units, while above shifting loading/unloading as well as placing
on foundation shall be carried out with at most care and precautions as required for
the safe operation.

10. Installation Procedure of DG set

To carryout installation activities for diesel generator below mentioned procedures

are recommended to follow-up step by step in sequential manner.

Pre delivery inspection shall be performed by the contractor (Kolon Global) to ensure
no damage is occurred in transit to components of DG set.

Prior to start installation, Engineer should ensure that approved shop drawings related
to the installation area are referred and that required materials are available at site as
per manufacturers installation.

Engineer has to ensure that all the materials are received at site as per approved
material submittal.

Ensure all civil works are completed for the area including floor paint to carry out the
installation, and clearance to be attested by Department before proceeding further
installation of DG set.

Installation procedures are to be followed as per manufacturers recommendations.

Installation works shall be carried out only with respect to approved shop drawings of
latest revision.

Diesel Generator Set will be off loaded to the place nearest to the installation and
protected properly from dust & environment, etc.

Prior to installation, the foundation will be checked for cleanliness and level.

Engineer has to ensure the orientation of DG set as per approved shop drawing
Exhaust duct & fuel oil pipe installation shall comply with the relevant clauses of
specifications and as per manufacturer recommendation.

Alternator neutral terminal & Body shall be connected with external earth as per
approved shop drawing.

Control panel shall be connected as per approved shop drawing and manufacturer
recommendations.

Cable connections between alternator, control panel and

Distribution Board shall be done as per approved shop drawing.

Installation of muffler, fuel supply system, exhaust ducts, circuit breaker

installation connections and control wires shall be carried out as per manufacturers
recommendation.

Required power and control termination shall be carried out as per manufacturers
recommendation.

DG Set Earthing shall be done as per earthing WMS specification and approved
Drawings.

After inspection of DG Set proper care will be taken to protect the unit from dust by
suitable covering, and shall further be released for the Testing work.

11. Safety

All safety precautions shall be followed as per approved safety procedure. Ensure all
involved persons are aware of the same through tool box briefings.

Safety supervisor shall ensure that all elevated flat forms walk ways to be used are
safe and in good conditions.

Lifting and handling machinery are in proper order and ensure the condition with a
trial lifting in every day.

Ensure that tradesman will keep their working places clean, tidy and free from
rubbish.
