SUBJECT: LEFT HINGE HOLDER IS CRACKED OR BROKEN
SYMPTOM:
The DF is not properly positioned on the exposure glass because the Left Hinge Holder (P/N: M0261730) is
cracked or broken. (The Hinge Holder is on the left when facing the front of the machine.)

CAUSE:
When the DF is raised and lowered, stress is concentrated on the area within the red circle in the picture
(below). Eventually, the Hinge Holder will crack and then break.

SOLUTION:
Production Countermeasure:
The Hinge Holder has been strengthened to increase its durability. The new style Hinge Holder has been
installed beginning with November 2011 production.

UNITS AFFECTED:
All machine serial numbers provided below (and after) are manufactured with the new type Hinge Holder.

Field Countermeasure:
The majority of the affected units were upgraded with the New type Hinge Holder prior to shipping from
the RAC warehouses. The following table reflects the Serial Numbers of the units that contain the Original
type Hinge Holder.

For the units listed above, during the next service visit or during machine installation inspect the Hinge
Holder to determine if the Holder is an Original or the New type based on the photos below. If it is the
Original type, replace the Holder following the Left Hinge Holder Replacement Procedure (on page 4).
Old Type: Inside edges are squared (90).

New Type: Inside edges are rounded.

LEFT HINGE HOLDER REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE:


1.

Remove the Rear Upper/Lower Cover (6 x ).

2.

Remove the screw (1 x ).

3.

Open the ADF.

4.

Put the sponge on the Scanner Glass.

5.

Remove the ADF, pulling up in the direction of the arrow in the picture.

6.

Put the ADF on the Scanner. Important: To avoid the damage of ADF cable, loosen the cable (yellow
circle below). Wipe off any oil or dirt on the surface of DF Hinge bottom with alcohol to avoid soiling the
contact glass (Red circle below).

7.

Remove the Scanner Cover, push with red arrow in the picture (1 x ).

8.

Remove the screws on the left hand of hinge holder (2 x ).

9.

Remove the screw (1 x ).

10. Pull the Left hinge holder as red arrow in the picture.

11. Re-assemble the new Hinge Holder in the reverse order of the steps above.
