TRANSFERABLE SKILLS AUDIT

Name:

Umar ali

Course: business level 3

Year: 2

Date: 26/09/16

Section 1
Consider the skills listed below and rate how important you think each skill is for employment and how competent you are in
this skill. Consider how each of these skills may enhance your performance, and allow you to develop and advance further.
You may wish to discuss these with your advisor of studies. Alternatively, you may wish to ask a friend or family member, and
to compare and discuss your separate findings.
Once you have rated yourself, multiply the number in the column marked Competence with that in the column Job
Importance. So, for example, if you feel that you are not very proficient in verbal and written communication (i.e. you have
rated your competence at 4), but that these skills are very important for employment (i.e. you have rated it at 5), then your
overall total score would be 5 X 4 = 20.

Section 2

This section will provide you with examples of the types of evidence you can provide to demonstrate your level of
competence with each skill.

to a group of people
Non-verbal:
Listening ability to
attend actively to others
views and ideas and

being said verbally

I have shown this by writing my CV

and personal statement. Also signing
up to NCS you had to write and
express yourself as an individual.
This has been shown for when I work in
groups or in the Cofe 4b. Working in
groups such as team working exercise in
class also needs you to work together.
This has been shown for when I have had
to do presentations in front of other
students in the past.

10

I do this on a day to day basis listening

to teachers to then follow the tasks.
Listening in on speakers and within mini
presentations.

10

This is something you have to do talking to

teachers and employers so to look
motivated your body has to look it to so by
not slouching.

This has been shown when we did the

careers fair and had to work in a big group
to get the fair going.

satisfactory outcome

Negotiation has to be done now and then

for example with the careers fair we had to
negotiate

A factor such as this isn't an issue because I

have to deal with teachers and other people
above me that are different in age and
gender.

25

I haven't been in the spotlight of being a

leader so have not had the opportunity to
motivate other students.

Personal developments are understood by me because I

have to always critique myself to ensure I can become
better at the things I am weak at.
For educational development I look at myself and
critique what I am weak at so I can improve on it. For
example if I was failing Maths i would try and improve
on it.
For career development I would need to look at the
things which will help me get to where I want to go. For
example doing work experience related to accountancy.
listening to different people and speakers gathering that
information for example at a ucas conventions so that I
can then apply it to what I want to do.
I have done this on many occasions for example within
NCS there would be activities where we would argue/
debate to back our point up with hardcore evidence to
defend what we say.
looking at grades for example. once I achieve grades I
can look at the and critique my performance talking
about weather it is good or bad e.g achieving 6
distinctions last year was good.

EVIDENCE FOR YOUR LEVEL OF

COMPETENCE

I do this on a day to day basis where I have to meet my

teachers deadlines.
I do this alot with assignments as I have identify the

information, including people and

reference material
Ability to use a library to find books and
journal articles

Ability to take notes, organise them, and

integrate them with other sources of
information
Ability to reference materials using an
appropriate system, e.g., Harvard or

relevant sources to then use them in my work. if allows

me to then effectively use my time and get the work
done.
I am able to do this because for my business work I will
have to use the books provided by the library and use
them to finish my assignments.
I do this when it comes to work a lot because you have
to take down notes, organise them and then use them
accordingly so that it can help me pass my work.
I do this in some assignments where i use neils toolbox
to harvard reference so that it looks more professional
and also will help in university life where i will have to
do it.

Identify your learning needs

Now pick three of the highest scoring skills from the above audit (by multiplying your scores as shown above) that you need to develop further.
List these below in order of priority.

Skill Area
1. motivatin
g others.
5 x 5 =25

Action Plan for Development and where you can access these
I am someone that has good leadership skills and can get things moving. however motivating someone isn't my
strong point. If someone isn't doing what they need to because they don't feel like they want to. instead of
encouragement I would give them the chance and then once thats done move on to someone else and give them the
task. I am not someone that waits around for people as I prefer everyone just gets on with what they are supposed to
do. I believe as though to become better at this I need to take a leaf out of other people's books such as teachers and
understand that it is worth motivating someone to get the best out of them.

2. ability to create a
database.
5 x 5 =25

This is something that I have done so to become better at it I need to do this in the future. when it comes to work
databases creating might be important so I have to ensure that I have the skills to create the database. To ensure that I
have the skills in the future I will have to do some work experience in a field where creating databases happens.
Doing this will mean that I can make databases easier and will then have the skills to make them so that it makes me
a better employee.

3. creativity

I am not the most creative person I get things done easier with just information coming my way and then dealing
with it. I just have never been that creative person that gives new ideas and new things to the table to help with
things. To make myself better at this I need to put myself forward in discussions listen and go from there. the more
discussions I listen to the more creative ideas i hear and the more I will learn to then incorporate them to other talks
and discussions for example.

5x 3 =15
