I Believe that Public Speaking Could Boost Confidence
For my I Believe Statement I wrote a poem about myself and my experience with public
speaking. I chose to write a poem as Ive always been into poetry and I do write a few poems.
When I was approaching how to write this poem I ran into a few problems as most poems I write
deal with pure emotion and this poem is more about experiences. The poem represents my belief
by way of comparing myself to Spring and nature. In the beginning of the poem Im shy and Im
insecure. However, near the end of the poem I began to appreciate myself and appreciate what I
have to say.
1. Before I was talkative I was extremely shy and never really participated in class,
but in freshman year my father forced me to join Speech and Debate. I was really hesitant
at first, but when I went to my first debate I got really into it. After that I began to realize
that I wasnt as shy any more and I started to not be so quiet.
2. There was not a trigger moment in the experience, but you could say that it really
began at the first debate.
3. The belief gradually developed as I began to open up and became less quiet.
4. This belief provides a framework because Im not as insecure as I used to be and
ever since Ive been better socially and Im grew in self-confidence, which tends to affect
a lot of other life aspects.
