SECTION 1: Findings
Congress makes the following findings:
1. Juneteenth marks a very important event, that being the end of slavery
throughout the United States.
2. The holiday itself honors those who fought and lived throughout the time of
hardship and suffering. To honor those who have fallen and help those in need of
healing. To respect the people who worked so hard to get the world to the way it
is. (i)
3. Texas and Oklahoma are the only states to recognize this date as an official
holiday. (ii)
SECTION 2: Purpose
June 19, 1865 marks the day when news of emancipation and the Civil War's end
finally reached America's last group of slaves. While Juneteenth is considered a state
holiday in some states, it should become a national memorial day. This bill provides that
Juneteenth becomes an official memorial day throughout the United States.

SECTION 3: General Provisions

This legislation will declare Juneenth as a national memorial day throughout the
United States. We dont that it become a national holiday. We only wish for it to be an
official memorial day. The time spent on that day will be up to the residents living
throughout the states. Promotion for this new memorial day will be urged throughout the
United States.

SECTION 4: Definitions
National Holiday - A holiday celebrated throughout the nation.
State Holiday - A holiday celebrated throughout a state.
