1. GENERAL
This procedure covers minimum requirements for leak test of reinforcement pad.
2. APPLICABLE ITEMS
E-300, E-301, E-400 and E-600
3. APPLICABLE CODE AND STANDARD
a. ASME code section VIII Division 1 2001 edition, 2002 addenda
b. ASME code section V
c. Client specification
4. LEAK TEST FOR REINFORCEMENT PAD
4.1 PREPARATION
a. Provide tapped telltale at reinforcement pad prior to be fitted-up to shell.
b. Accessories for testing.
Pressure gauge and inlet connection to be set on reinforcement pad.
NOTE:
One pressure gauge minimum is used with graduation 1.5 up to 4 times of test
pressure. Calibration status of them shall be checked for usable and at any time
that there is reason to believe that gauges are in error, they shall be re-calibrated.
4.2 APPLICATION
a. Leak test is to be performed prior to hydrostatic test and post weld heat treatment.
b. Place the nozzle on the good position so that operator can perform leak test without any
obstacles.
c. Provide air compressor and hose connect to telltale hole.
d. Pressure 2 Kg/cm2 G (30 psig) and inspect using soap bubble. Leakage is indicated with
formation of bubble.
e. After success of test pressure to be decreased to zero and telltale hole to be damage or
deformed in such manner that threaded plugs can not be installed, then packed with heavy
grease.
4.3 REPAIRING
a. When leakage is found, mark it for identification.
b. Repair it using approved welding procedure.
c. Perform Visual test and penetrant test or magnetic test.
d. Re-leak test in accordance with pint 4,2 above.
