Capable of being broken down (decomposed) rapidly by the action of microorganisms.


Biodegradable substances include food scraps, cotton, wool, wood, human and animal waste,
manufactured products based on natural materials (such as paper, and vegetable-oil based soaps).

waste is a type of waste that can not be broken down into its base compounds by microorganisms, air, moisture or soil in a reasonable amount of time. Non-biodegradable waste is an
environmental concern, as it threatens to overwhelm landfills and create disposal problems
