This rubric assesses 2nd grade physical education students on their locomotor skills. It evaluates students on their ability to demonstrate skipping, hopping, galloping, and sliding while transitioning commands, as well as smoothly transitioning from running into a jump. Students are scored on a scale from 0 to 4 based on how many locomotor skills they can consistently perform with correct form, with advanced students demonstrating all skills and leading others.

Grade: 2 Standard: 1. Movement Competence & Understanding Concept/ Skill: 1. Demonstrate the elements of movement in combination with a variety of locomotor skills Evidence Outcome: a. Demonstrate skipping, hopping, galloping, and sliding while transitioning on command b. Demonstrate smooth transition sequential motor skills such as running into a jump c. Move using the concepts of space awareness and movement control to run, hop, and skip in different ways in a large group without bumping into others or falling (DOK 1-3) Criteria 4 = Advanced Student consistently demonstrates correct patterns while performing all locomotor movements (skipping, galloping, sliding, hopping, and running) and extraordinary abilities in applying these skills in a variety of games and activities. (can list several possible activities here if desired). Student leads, mentors, inspires, and encourages other students in developing their own locomotor skills. 3 = Proficient Student consistently demonstrates correct patterns while performing all locomotor movements (skipping, galloping, sliding, hopping, and running). 2 = Partially Proficient Student consistently demonstrates correct patterns while performing 3 or 4 of the 5 locomotor movements. . 1 = In-Progress Student consistently demonstrates correct patterns while performing 1 or 2 of the 5 locomotor movements. 0= No basis for evaluation or not tested.
