Debate Circles

Formative Assessment
This assessment will be used to activate student thinking and uncover their understandings and
misconceptions. Students will form a circle in the classroom or another large area.
I will ask students, What are the similarities and differences in each picture of the liver? Students
will be divided into two groups looking at the both the healthy and healthy liver. Group one will
move right side of the circle. Group two to the left and both groups formulate their position on the
topic.
I will listen to the discussion and assess student understanding. After the students have had time to
formulate their ideas of what they see in each picture. They will form two lines facing one another
and students take turns expressing their ideas on the statement.
