Curriculum Updates

Coming This Week:

The last two weeks have been action packed for the
crew! This week was very exciting as we were able to visit
the Clark Planetarium and Gale Center on Wednesday with
Mrs. Probert s class. We learned a lot about the earth and
moon, stars, even force and motion which directly link to
our 3rd grade curriculum. For those of you interested, the
Clark Planetarium just finished a remodeling and updated
many of their exhibits, all of which are impressive and
exciting to visit. You can smell the moon, Mars, and other
solar features, see how water freezes, learn your weight
on other planets and stars, control landing rovers, and
experience a storm on Jupiter s moon, Io. We were also
lucky enough to see a star show in the Dome Theater
where we learned more about the varying sizes of our solar
system s features, and hear stories of the constellations.
Highly recommended for a night of family fun!
The Gale Center was an exciting visit as our students
were able to learn more of the history of South Jordan,
connecting directly to what we have been learning about in
Social Studies about communities. Students were able to
sit in a one-room school house, see what South Jordan
looked like 100 years ago, and feel various animal pelts
while learning about local Native American tribes.
Friday brought our Halloween celebration, and even
more excitement. Thank you to those parents who were
able to help with that!
This week we will be back to hitting the books hard!

Math: This week we will continue our

focus on identifying various types of word
problems and how to solve them using
our multiplication and division strategies.
Quick Quizzes will continue every Tuesday
and Thursday. Some of our crew are
close to passing off their facts with the 2
minute tests and will move to division
facts in 2 minutes! Keep practicing those
math facts!
Literacy: This week we will move towards
publishing our Halloween stories, We are
continuing our emphasis on adding
dialogue and choosing strong words. In
reading we are going to focus on our
fluency this week by recording and
listening to ourselves read aloud.
Spelling: New spelling words coming home
in the Homework Packet. I will upload the
spelling lists onto Spelling City
(www.spellingcity.com/tolbert3)
