this great institute of learning, Sikkim Manipal University
(SMU). SMU has been at the forefront of distance education
since 2001 through Sikkim Manipal University - Directorate of
Distance Education.
The government plans to increase the number of students
enrolled in the distance education system from 16 lakh to over
80 lakh in the next five years, and the planning commission has
recommended that distance education should meet 40% of
the higher education requirement. To meet these ambitious
goals, having a quality distance education institute is of

Articles/SLM: Students can access Self Learning
Materials (SLM) and relevant articles/blogs. The
blogs are frequently updated to keep the students
informed on current developments.
ASSIGNMENTS
Assignments play an important role in distance learning and constitute the continuous evaluation. The main objective of the assignments is to test comprehension of the SLM Content. The submission of assignments is compulsory.
Assignments of a program carry 30% weightage while 70% weightage is given to the term-end examinations. The
information given in the printed SLMs should be sufficient for answering the assignments.

Master of Business Administration - MBA
Eligibility: 3 Year Graduation from a recognized University and student must qualify in the #Entrance test conducted by the
University.
#
Exemption for Entrance test to MBA Program conducted by the University: A candidate who has a score card of National /
International MBA Entrance Test* and his/her score is 45 percentile or above. However, the score card should not be more
than one year old at the time of admission at SMU-DE.

Semester Fee: ` 17,000/- (inclusive of Exam Fee ` 2,300/-), or as revised from time to time.
Fee may also be paid one-time/annually. Please contact University for more details.
Minimum Duration: 2 Years (4 Semesters)
Maximum Duration: 4 Years
In addition to the EduNxtTM support available to all students as supplemental learning, such of those students
who also wish to opt for a separate learning device, may do so, at the time of seeking admission. This device
comes at a price fixed by the University and is to be paid for by the student at the time of admission. Details may

Semester Fee: ` 13,950/- (inclusive of Exam Fee ` 2,300/-), or as revised from time to time.

ADMISSION INFORMATION
The University offers UGC approved Programs in distance
mode in the streams of Management and IT. The Programs
are delivered from the Headquarters at Sikkim Manipal
University, Gangtok.
Application to SMU-DE may be initiated through our
website, www.smude.edu.in. Competent and qualified
Counsellors will guide and support throughout the
admission process.
Program details are also be available on our website,
www.smude.edu.in.
Credit Transfer: Students of other recognized Universities
can seek transfer, based on Program and study up to a
minimum of 50% of Program with SMU-DE. These students
need to submit migration certificate / undertaking letter
along with eligibility documents while seeking admission
with requisite fees.
Payment of Fee
In addition to the Program fee, the applicant needs to pay
application fee prescribed by University at the time of
admission.
Program Structure
The Program curricula are designed and scrutinized by
experts to meet the market demands. Course material is
specially designed by a team of experts drawn from different
industries, University and in-house faculty.
Credit System
The 'credit system' is followed in all Programs, wherein each
credit amounts to 30 hours of study.
Support Services
The student portal / Myzone App will allow students to login
using password credentials, permit them to submit service
request, pay fees and track the status of their queries.
Students will also receive SMS / email alerts / notification
from the University across various touch points.
Admitted students will be provided with printed study
materials (SLM Self Learning Material) for each of the
course in their semester.
Academic Counselling sessions will be conducted through
a blended approach.
EduNxtTM could be used as a key media by the students to
get their academic doubts clarified by participating in the
Discussion Board, attending to the value-add lecture
sessions, submit Internal Assignments and Final Semester
Project documents to the University.
Through EMI facility, the candidates may also pay the fees
in instalments using their Credit Cards of select Banks,
subject to the approval of the respective Bank. Payment
through EMI is offered at the sole discretion of the Banks as
per their terms and conditions. University is only
facilitating EMI facility being provided by Banks. The
applicable Bank Charges shall be borne by the Applicant.

a) Theory Papers:
Theory part is assessed by the performance based on continuous evaluation through assignments and term-end examinations conducted at the examination centres. The assessment
ratios for University Examinations (UE) to Internal Assessment
(IA) is 70:30. The IA is based on assignments stipulated by the
University.
Term-end examinations (TEE) will comprise of Descriptive and
MCQ/Single answer type questions.
A student must score at least 40% in each of Internal Assessment and Term-end examinations to be declared as pass.

Examination
The University term-end examination will be conducted
either manually or in a computer assisted mode. The details of
the examination mode will be made available as part of the
Examination Regulations released by the University from time
to time.
The student is informed about the examination schedule and
Examination Centre through the admit card and also through
the website www.smude.edu.in. Eligible students will be
given admit cards to appear in the term-end examination.
Students will have to produce the identity card and admit
card to appear in the term-end examination at the Examination Centre. The examination pattern is available in the
Program guide provided to the students.
Results
The results will be published on the website
www.smude.edu.in. If a student fails to clear any of the papers
(either in UE or IA or both), he/she has to re-appear for the
relevant paper by applying to the University through the
re-sitting application along with relevant fees, within the due
date specified by the University.
Award of Degree
All successful students will be awarded respective Degree by
the University.

University Programs.
The Applicant has to submit a completed application form
for admission with relevant documents to the University
well within the due date.
If the application is complete in all respects and the
University is satisfied with the applicant's eligibility and
suitability for admission into the respective Program, the
student will be granted admission to that Program.
The University shall call upon for the verification of the
Original Eligibility documents at any point of time during
the course of study and non- submission of the same may
result in cancellation of admission.
No candidate is permitted to pursue more than one Degree
Program at a time from SMU-DE/any other recognised
University. A candidate seeking admission in Bachelors or
Masters Degree Programs offered by SMU is not permitted
to join any Bachelors or Masters Degree Program offered by
any recognized University/Board/Institution in India at the
same time. Any student undergoing Bachelors or Masters
Degree in any recognized University/Board/Institution in
India is not permitted to seek admission in Bachelors or
Masters Degree by SMU at the same time.
Admission granted on the basis of false information will be
ipso facto null and void and the candidate will render
himself/herself liable for civil/criminal action.
If the application received from the student is not complete
in any respect, the student may be given provisional
enrolment at the University's discretion. Such students will
have to submit the required eligibility documents as
communicated by the University at the earliest, upon
receipt of which their enrolment will be confirmed, subject
to eligibility fulfillment.
An identity card will be provided to students after their
enrolment in a Program.
Jurisdiction
All disputes relating to University Programs and activities are
subject to local jurisdiction (Sikkim) only.
