I have consistently warned my household not to leave the water taps on, whether or not they (the taps) are running. This is because, even if they are not, power could be restored in our absence and our co-tenants could pump water. Last night there was no power and the taps were dry before we went to bed. I woke up this morning, however, to discover that the entire kitchen and parts of the living room were completely flooded. For the umpteenth time, Amaka, my sister-in-law, had left the kitchen tap on and the sink had overflowed. Amaka! Amaka! Look what you have done! Why are you so forgetful? Is it the avalanche of calls that you answer, or is it your boyfriend that you keep thinking about? I yelled.
