Physical & Health Education (P.H.E.

) Grade 8 & 9
Daily physical activity = a healthy mind, body and soul
P.H.E. provides the opportunity for students to develop an understanding of the importance
of an active and healthy lifestyle. Students will explore the relationship of physical activity
to social and mental well-being.

Policies and Procedures:

Daily Physical Activity is a course requirement!!
Appropriate P.H.E. Clothing:
A complete change of clothes for all weather conditions. Shorts or track pants, a tshirt or sweatshirt and properly laced running shoes are required for class.
No Tank Tops. School athletic uniforms are not to be used as PE strip.
Chronic NO Strip will negatively affect achievement and be dealt with by the
individual teacher

Changing Policy:
Students are expected to be in the PE Area (not the plaza) BEFORE the second bell.
Please enter and exit the change rooms through the PE hallway between the gyms
and do not cut through the large gym.
Students have five minutes to change into PE strip and be seated in the small gym
to meet their teacher. Arriving late to class will result in a lower participation mark.
Gym Lockers : May be used only during assigned P.H.E. class.

All valuables must be left in students school locker!!!!

Medical Excuses & Absences:
Parent communication, via a note to the teacher, is needed for absences.
Students are expected to change every day to participate when injured or ill, in a
modified activity.
Long term medical problems should be communicated to the teacher by the
parent/guardian and if necessary, confirmed by a doctors note, explaining their
illness, and alternate/modified options for PHE class.

PE Equipment and Facilities

NO FOOD OR DRINK, ALLOWED IN THE GYMNASIUMS, AT ANY TIME.

Treat PHE equipment and gym facilities with respect and care at all times.
Dismissal

Students must change in the change room, out of their PE strip and back into their
school clothes and are expected to be seated in the plaza at the end of class.
Students not seated will receive a zero for their class participation mark.
Communicating Student Learning (CSL):
Summative Evaluation measures student learning by gathering evidence.
Formative Evaluation is built into instruction through feedback and allows students
to understand how they can improve their learning.

SECURITY OF PERSONAL ITEMS

To Students, Parents and Guardians:
Unfortunately, theft is a problem in the Physical & Health Education area of all schools.
Items have been stolen from the change rooms, gymnasiums, and from the field.
In order to avoid this increasing problem, we are asking students to bring only what they
need for class (shorts, t-shirts, hoodies, runners, etc.). All other belongings including
wallets, purses, phones, I-Pods, mp3 players, cameras or other electronic devices should be
left in regular school lockers as these are targeted items that are often stolen. Clothes and
shoes will sometimes be taken as well.
To that end, students must lock up any items they bring to the gym in order to keep them
safe. Students are responsible for supplying their own lock to secure their items during
class, but these lockers are for class use only. Locks must be removed at the end of each
block so that there is room for the remainder of the classes that day. Locks that are left on
will be periodically cut-off due to lack of lockers for students. ** There are currently no
lockers in the Boys change room, therefore it is imperative that students using
this change room bring nothing of value to class!
The school is not responsible for any losses incurred.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Leaving School Campus during P.H.E. Class

To Students, Parents and Guardians:
P.H.E. Classes at Guildford Park are expected to participate in a number of weekly stage
runs. These are pre-set, measured runs that leave from the school using a road course
through the GP neighbourhood. These runs will be completed as a class assignment, the
entire class will be outside for the run, and the teacher-will remain in one spot for students
to report back to. Attendance will be taken before and after the run. Students are not
permitted to use any listening device/I-Pods/Phones on school runs.

Students may also participate in visits to the Guildford Recreation Center. Our classes will
walk/run to the Rec Center and use their facilities during our PHE blocks. When arriving at
the Rec. Center students are to meet their teacher and enter with their class. When leaving
the Rec. Center, during class time, students must return to school to and sign in with their
teacher, to record their attendance. Classes may be dismissed from the Rec Center, if the
facilities were used the block before lunch or last block of the day.
Please sign below to indicate that you are aware of off-campus excursions.
