What data sets /information you will seek from the client

and why?
Latin America region mainly consist of Mexico, Argentina, Brazil,
Venezuela, Cuba, Ecuador & Trinidad are relatively gifted with the
energy resources. Although distribution of these resources is
uneven across countries, these countries produce more energy
than it consumes. They have volatile geography in energy
matters. This volatility is due in part to the regions frequent
political upheaval as well as to comparably sluggish economic
performance in recent years compared with other developing
regions.
As a client of independent mid-sized oil & gas company in US, we
would require some basic information as well as specific datasets
which could be helpful to formulate strategy for them to foray into
Latin Americas oil & gas business.
1) Clients total capacity to investThe selection of countries and risk to be taken is highly
associated with the investment plan of the client. How
much amount one would like to invest into the Latin
Americas market is key deciding factor while formulating
strategy.
2) Funding ability of clientHow much fund client could get from the market. On how
much degree of leverage of leverage client would like to
work? What is credit rating of the client based on which
one can get strategic partners/loans for the investment.
3) Technical Expertise (onshore, shallow or deep water)
What is technical ability of client and how much
competent compare to other players in the market is also
necessary to know while formulating strategy. Some
basins in Latin America require high skills & technical

expertise to extract oil which would require much


capability. If client lacks this then one should not advice
them to invest in such basins.
4) Are they ready for any kind of JV or other collaboration or
want to venture alone
Which kind of strategic partnership they are ready to
make or they want to go alone in the oil & gas investment
are also important criteria to make perfect investment
plan for the client.
5) Policy for employeesWhether client would prefer local employees to hire &
make them trained or would it send already working
employees to Latin Americas site location.
6) SWOT analysis of the firm
The SWOT analysis would be helpful to know clients
internal capabilities, their weakness, their gray area and
other related information.
7) The clients & consultants role, point of Direct
collaboration
8) Clarity on Role , Scope, Deliverables & Outcome, Bilateral
obligation
