What is PBS ?

PBS is holistic form of assessment which assesses the cognitive, affective and
psychomotor domains encompassing intellectual, emotional, spiritual and physical

aspects.
PBS is carried out continuously in schools by teachers during the teaching and

learning process.
PBS covers both academic and non-academic fields.

There are 4 components in PBS:

Central Assessment

Psychometric Assesment

Central Assesment
Central assesment involves one or more tasks set by the Examinations Syndicate but
administed and graded by teachers based on scoring rubrics provided by the central
body.

School Assesment
School assessment is set, administered, graded and reported by the school based on
the requirements of the curriculum.

Assesment of Sport and Co-curricular activities

Learners participantion and involvement in sports and co-curricular activities are
recorded and reported in Assesment of Physical, Sports and Co-curricular Activities.

Psychometric Assesment
Psychometric assessment is another non-academic component that measures pupils
innate and acquired abilities.

What is the impact of PBS on these new improvement ?

PBS is a continuous process and more holistic.
Example : According to PT3, 20 marks will be based on performance in class.
Effect : students will be more motivated and pay more attention in order to get the
extra marks.
Present Assessment : Only focusing on examination.
Weakness : students only studying for examination and playful in class.

Is the concept of PBS something new ?

PBS is not a new concept.
Questions, quizzes, exercises in class, homework and projects is a method often used
by teachers.
PBS proposed improvements to the PBS is already implemented by introducing a
reference standard assessment and application PBS Management System (SPPBS).
Which help teachers to record student achievement on an ongoing basis.

Mentoring is the process of assisting, facilitating and guiding teachers to
implement PBS accordance with the principles and procedures set.
Coordination
Coordination is the process of standardizing the scores refer to Standard
Performance provided or under the rubric of a task.
Monitoring
Monitoring is the process to get information and make an assessment carried
out in accordance with the procedures and guidelines in order to have validity
and reliability.
Detection
Detection is the process of ensuring the strength and effectiveness of
assessment instruments in the implementation of PBS.
