OverviewoftheRealm

EaerlannisapowerfulnationcomposedprimarilyofWoodElvesandMoonElvesthathasenduredfornearlysix
thousandyears.ItexistsinthenorthernandeasternportionsoftheHighForest,alongthewesternbanksofthe
RiverShining,theDelimbyr.TherealmisboundbytheeasternpartoftheHighForest,fromTurnstonePass,inthe
northtotheShiningFallsinthesouth.ItsborderrunsnorthacrosstheDelimbyrRiver,takingintheTalonHills,and
thewoodsoftheFarForest.ThissharedborderwithAmmarindaarthenrunsacrossthenorthernGraypeaks,
beforerunningdownthewesternbankoftheDelimbyruntilitreachestheShiningFalls.

EaerlannwasfoundedintheruinsofAryvandaarin4,700DR,bynoblesfromSharrven,whowereworriedthat
theambitiousnationofSiluvanedewouldrepeatthemistakesofAryvandaar,andsparkanewCrownWar.As
such,EaerlannwasfoundedtostandvigilagainsttheSiluvanedennandtostandwatchoverthehiddensecretsof
Aryvandaar.NowinitswaningyearsitspopulationhasbegantodwindleasitsresidentsleaveforEvermeetorjoin
thenewerrealmsappearingalongtheSwordCoast.ManyEaerlannicitiesconsistofhollowedouttreesand
platformsconnectedbydozensofslenderropebridges.Eachmajorsettlementholdsatleastonetreetemple
dedicatedtotheelvengods.BardslikenthelandsaroundtheRiverShiningtoalushgardenwherenatural
beautyiscarefullyprunedtoproduceanalmostsupernaturalparadise,fieldsareexceptionallyfertileandfarmers
raiseoutstandingvegetables.Themeadowsarebedeckedwithwildflowersthroughoutmostoftheyear.The
forestsaretheprovinceoffey,centaurs,andunicorns.

TherealmofEaerlannisgovernedbyaHighCouncilmadeupofrepresentativesfromallofthemajorsettlements
andcitiesoftherealm,alongwithrepresentativesfromeachoftheCorselutaarofthevariouscities,themajor
temples,theAhkFaernandtheAhkVelahrn.ItispresidedoverbytheCoronal,whorepresentsthewillofthe
peopleandbalancesthedecisionsofthecouncilagainstwhats/heconsidersisbestfortherealm.TheCoronalis
consideredtherepresentativeinEaerlannofthewilloftheSeldarine,andisseenbymanyordinarypeopleastheir

voiceinthepoliticalgamesoftheHighCouncil.AdvisorstothecouncilcomefromAscalhorn,Ammarindaar,
Siluvanede,Silverymoon,Sharrven,Illefarn,EvereskaandEvermeet.Whilsttheyhaveavoice,theyhavenovoting
rights,andmustrelyontheothercouncilmemberstogettheirwantsandneedsaddressed.
ThecurrentCoronalisEaerythinnStarsong,aformerCorselutaarofTeauveamanthaar,whotookoverfromhis
auntwhenshewaskilledfacingdowntheThunderingHordein52DR.Hislongandpeacefulrulehasbeen
markedbytheadmittanceofNethereserefugeesintoAscalhorn,thegrantingorpermissiontobegintheretreatto
Evermeet,particularlybyGoldElfclansfromSiluvanede,thelayingoftheMythaloverGlaurachyndaar,andthe
resettlementofrefugeesfromMythDrannorafteritsfall.Eaerythinnsenlightenedrulehasmarkedagoldenage

discoveredthesecretlairofSaryaDlardrageth,underneaththesettlementofAscalsHorn.ThepatronessofHouse
Dlardragethandhersonswerecaptured,andafewotherFeyriwereferretedoutandkilled.Inretaliation,House
DlardragethuseditspoliticalinfluencetohavetheleadinghousesofSiluvanedecallforwaronEaerlann.Thus,
inadvertently,Eaerlannhadsparkedthewarthatithadbeenfoundedtoprevent.KnownbysomeastheSixth
CrownWar,theSevenCitadelsWarpitstheforcesofSiluvanedeagainsttheforcesofEaerlann.
4,400DR,EaerlannpressedintoSiluvanede,causingtheSiluvanedenntoresorttoagambitthatwould
eventuallyspelldestructionfortheirnation.TrekkingintotheruinsofAryvandaar,theSiluvanedennopened
severalcachesofancientmagicandweapons,andbeganequippingtheirsoldiersandmagicianswiththese
weaponsandspellsofVyshaantiorigin.Upondiscoveringthis,therealmofSharrvenenteredintotheSeven

CitadelsWar,allyingthemselveswithEaerlann.TheirreasoningwasthattheSeldarinethemselveshad
condemnedtheVyshaanti,andbyreopeningtheirhiddencaches,andreintroducingVyshaantiweaponsandspells
intotheworld,theSiluvanedennneededtobestopped,lesttheybecomeaVyshaantarEmpireofthepresent.
4,300DR,theSiluvanedennwerenolongerabletostoptheforcesofEaerlann.Eaerlannforciblyannexedthe
nation,imprisoningmostoftheFeyrileadingthenationtoitsdoominNarKarymhoarth,theNamelessDungeon.
SiluvanedewouldremainaninsignificantvassalrealmofEaerlannuntilthenationsfall.Upondiscoveringthe
deceitofthefeyri,untaintedSiluvanedennhighmagesplacethecityofMythAdofhaerinmagicalstasis,
effectivelyfleeingtothefarfuturetoescapeassociationwiththefeyrihouses.TheSevenCitadelswarendswith
thedefeatandannexationofSiluvanede,byEaerlann.

4100DR,ShielddwarvessettletheGraypeakMountainsfoundingtheKingdomofAmmarindar.

3900DR,Delzoun,thegreatNorthkingdomofthedwarves,isfounded.

homewithaveryspecialprizeintow:TheNetherScrolls.UsingtheknowledgethatTheNetherScrollsgranted
them,theNetheresebeganrelyinglessandlessonthemagicsthattheEaerlanniwereteachingthem.Eventually,
theycompletelyabandonedtheirEaerlannitutors,infavorofthepowerTheNetherScrollsgavethem.This,
obviously,causedsomefrictionbetweenthetwonations.Itispossiblethatthetwonationscouldhavebutted
headsinahighlyvolatileanddestructivewar,butcertainissuesarosethateventuallycausedEaerlanntotakea
newcourseofaction.
3520DR,TheelvesofEaerlannbeganquietlyassistingthesmallbandsofgnomerefugeeswhoarrivedontheir
borders.

halflingsettlementexistintheNorth.TheinhabitantsofGriffonsNestarealsoslaughteredbythehordes;less
than100gnomessurvivethemassacre.Flintrockisalsodestroyed,thoughthemajorityofinhabitantsescapeto

alliancequicklydwindlesastherefugeeelvesofEaerlannwithdrawfromthepactduetoantihumansentiment
amongtheirnumber,andthisshortlivedperiodisapaleshadowofPhalorm.Sageshowever,intheirconfusion,
labelthisallianceastheFallenKingdom,anameproperlyattributabletoPhalorm,theRealmofThreeCrowns.The

TherealmofEaerlannoccupiestheupperreachesoftheDelimbyrVale,anareaoflandthatsurroundsthe
DelimbyrRiver.alsoknownastheShiningRiver.anditstributaries.TheValereachesasfarsouthasthewestern
mostbordersoftheSouthWoodtoitsheadwaterintheNetherMountains.Deep,dark,andenigmatic,theHigh
ForestisinarguablythegreatestforestinFaerun,sinceithasresistedthewoodsmansaxeforuntoldcenturies.
Thesylvanwoodsexpansecoversmorethan500milesfromitssouthernedgenearSecombertoitsnorthern
reachesatthefoothillsoftheNetherMountains.

Climate
MuchoftheDelimbyrValelikethemajorityoftheNorthhasasubarcticclime.Long,bitterwinterstypicallylast
frommidMarpenothtolateTarsakh,withtemperaturesdroppingto30Fandrarelyclimbingpast40F.
Frequentblizzardsblanketthelandinsnowdrifts(often10feetdeep)thatisolatecommunitiesfromoneanother.
Inthemountains,temperaturesapproacharcticiciness,whiletheforestsshrugofftheworsteffectsofwinter
(somewoods,likeNeverwinterWoodandthesouthernHighForest,neverfeelwinteratall).Riversfreezeover
withicethickenoughtosupportwagonsanddraftteamsbetweenUktarandearlyChes.Summersinthevaleare
short,buthot,temperaturesclimbto100F,whichalongwithhighhumidityandhotsiroccowindsfromthe
Anaurachkeepsitwarmenoughformostanyone(ifnotuncomfortablysoattimes).Precipitationnormallytakes
theformofrain,buthail,sleet,andsnowarecommon.Summeristhetimeforwizardweather,when
unpredictable,evenmagical,weatherpatternsoccurinthevicinityoftheHighForest.Thecloudcoveroverthe

reindeertravelinthunderingherds(oftenfollowedbytundratribes),whilethewhitecoatedmountainram
commandstheloftypeaks.Hugesometimesdeadlywildboarslurkintheforests;they.refineeating,butoftenat
thesteeppriceofmenslives.Smallanimalsaboundeverywhere:rabbits,squirrels,redfoxes,mice,bats,water
rats,prairiedogs,beavers,weasels,andermines.Commonbirdlifeincludesgamebirdslikethepheasant,grouse,

normallydrawnupintothetrees.AncientwardsdatingbacktotheearliestdaysofEaerlannprotecttheTallTrees
settlementfrommagicalandnonmagicalfire,thedangeroflightningstrikes,andthethreatofrotanddisease.
TheinhabitantsofTeuveamanthaarhavecreatedfabulousdwellingsfromhollowspainstakinglyshapedintothe
trunksandbranchesofthegreattreesastheygrow.Farabovetheforestfloor,ropebridgescrisscrossthe
distancebetweenthemassiveoaksandleadintomasterfullyshapedlivingchambersinsidethetrunks.

Thecityitselfismadeupofseveralkeylocationsspreadoveralargeareaoftheforestslopesstretchingalongthe
valleyuponwhichthecityrests.

Architecture
Withtheexceptionofafewgroundbuiltshelters,Teuveamanthaarisexclusivelyanarborealcommunity,built
withinsomeofthethickestfoliageintheHighForest.Grandbuildingshighabovethegroundwerebuiltby
membersofvariouselvenclans.Residentsofthesetreedwellingsarenevermorethanafewmomentsfromthe
forestfloor.Thefewgrounddwellingsinthecityareextremelywellbuilt,andinsomecases,verywellhidden.
Somearecarvedoutofthebaseofcolossaloaktrees,beingcarefulnottokillthetreeintheprocess.These
dwellingsoftenleadtosmallundergroundchambersthatstoreperishablesforthecommunity,orthetreasuresof
individualclans.Othersarebuiltoutofquarriedstone(oftenmarbleorsomeotherelegantflagstone)imported
fromMythGlaurach.Thesedwellingsarefortheinfirmortheveryyoung.

ElvendruidsarerareexceptamongtheSyTelQuessir.Whiletherearealwaysinstancesofpriestsofotherelven

CorellonLarethian.Rillifaneisthemorehighlyveneratedofthethree,withCorellonbeingpaidhomageashewho
gavebirthtotheelves,andSehaninebeingthePatronGoddessoftheMoonElves.Rillifanehasalwaysbeen
recognizedasthepatronoftheSyTelQuessir,protectorofthewoodlandsandguardianoftheharmonyofnature.
ShrinestoRillifanecannotcomparetotheembellishedtemplesoftheotherEaerlannicitiesbutinsteadoften
compriseasingletreeintheforest.ThedruidsofRillifanechooseagrandoaktreeandcarveasmallcanaryinthe

Hamagess,assheissometimesknown,issaidtohavesprungfromtheheartofaTurlang,thefirstwoodnymph
bornofaTreantandnotanordinaryoaktree.TurlangandtheHamagessruledtheHighForestaskingandqueen
foroveramillenniumbeforethefallofAscalhornintheYearoftheCurse(882DR)threatenedtheHighForest
withthetaintoftheAbyss.TheHamagessissaidtohavegivenherlifetoformalivingmantlearoundtheHigh
ForesttoshielditfrominfestationbythetwistedvegetationoftheAbyss.[5]Althoughherdeathwasanoccasion
ofgreatsorrowforthoseracesthatliveinharmonywiththegreatwoodlands,itissaidthattheHamagesssongs
stilldriftthroughtheWoodsofTurlangeachautumn,whisperingwordsofcomfortandmagictohermate.Ifher
breathtouchesabrilliantyellowleafintheprocessofdriftingtothegroundfromthelimbofalongslumbering
Treant,itleavesinitseddyaleafofpuregoldinscribedwiththeworkingsofarareoruniquespell.Throughthese
LeavesofGoldtheforestcanbedefendedagainstloomingthreatstoitsexistence.
ThelivingmantlethatenvelopstheHighForestissomewhatakintoapowerfulwardorminormythal.Whileit
stands,vegetationnativetotheLowerPlanes,suchasvipertrees,cannotgrowwithinthebordersoftheHigh
Forest,andthetaintoffiendsfromtheLowerPlanescannotcorruptanyplantthatgrowswithintheconfinesof
thegreatwoods.AncientwardsdatingbacktotheearliestdaysofEaerlannprotecttheTallTreessettlementfrom

TheSungladeisanimportantsiteintheValeofTeuveamanthaar.Thismagicalsite,anditismagical,forithasbeen

staircaseswindtheirwayup200tothelowestlevelsofthepalacewhichtakesin100smallerchambers,flets,and
treehomesaswellasthelargerStarSpeakersHall,HighCouncilChamberandthethroneroomsetnearthevery
topsofthetreecircle.Eachtreeis50wideandhousesmanyextradimensionalspaceswithinitstrunk.Acircleof
12landingplatformsradiateoutfromthepalaceringallowinggianteagles,griffonsanddragonsoflargesizeor
smallertolandinsafety.Thereareaeriesfor24gianteaglesandtheirridersbasedintheverytopofthepalace.
Atnightthetreesarelitbyfaerielightsthattwinklelikemulticoloredstarswhenseenfrombelow.Thepalaceisa
cityuntoitselfwiththedaytorunningofthecitytakingplacehere.Avastadministrativeandmilitarycomplexof
giantshadowtopandredwoodtreessurroundsthecentralpalace,eachjoinedbyropebridges,woodenwalkways,

hamlet,anditscrownsoarsashighasahilltop.HiddeninsideisTeumyshaaril,anancienttemplededicatedto

parentsofelvenchildreninTeuveamanthaaroftensendtheiryoungchildrentotheTempleofCorellon,evenif

Theleavesofthisplantarecultivated.Theyaredriedinavarietyofmethods,dependingonwhoharvestedthem,
andthencrushedintosmallflakes.Itisinthisformthattheirpotenthallucinogeniceffectscanbetapped.Once
theDreamLeaveshavereachedthispoint,theyareconsideredadrugbymostauthorities.

Whenavinereachesmaturity,itbeginstoflower.Maturevinesareeasytodifferentiatefromimmaturevines.
Maturevinesareabluewhitecolor,whileimmaturevinesareafreshgreencolor.Thesmallflowersthatbudon
maturevinesarecrimson,someofwhichhaveblueandwhiteflecksonthepetals.Thecenteroftheseflowers
containssweetsmellingwhitepollen.

Onnightsofafullmoon,whenmoonbeamsshinedownupontheseflowers,thepollenwithingoesthrougha
remarkablemagicalmetamorphosis.Theordinarywhitepollenbeginstoglowasoft,milkywhiteluminescence.

Ifthepollenisextractedfromtheflowerduringthenight,afterthepollenundergoesthistransformation,it
continuestoglow,andexhibittheseunusualcharacteristics.Ifthepollenisnotextracted,itreturnstonormal
