3C Advanced: Prose Composition

Objectives
Students will learn about what a prose composition is.
Students will be able to write instructions for and compose a prose composition piece.

PowerPoint on prose composition
Internet for prose composition examples from

Procedures
1. The beginning of the class will start with a random call and response with students,
asking them to listen to a Mirrorim by Pauline Olivera and will be asked for what they
hear afterwards. This will introduce idea.
2. The students will receive a PowerPoint on a basic definition and listening to a couple
examples from the website listed in materials.
3. The teacher will ask students to volunteer to give some instructions that someone could
tell a musician on how to play with a duet,
a. examples of written commands
4. Students will be let loose to find a partner and instruments to use to practice using the
commands on the board for their own purpose. Students will also be told that they can
create anything that they want as well if they can come up with something more
interesting and spontaneous.
5. After a few minutes of practicing, students will be asked if anyone would like to share
their prose compositions until the end of the class.
