MODEL DM-2220
Digital Magnetometer
DM-2220
DM.2220-84
DESCRIPTION
‘The DM.2220 and DM-2220-S4 monaxial, fluxgate
magnetometers measure magnetic field intensities
within the +2 gauss range and provide easy-to-
read, front-panel digital readouts. Designed for use
in inspection and production testing, these instru-
ments have a +0.01 milligauss resolution on the
most sensitive range, making them especially use-
ful in determining the residual level and stability of
low-field test applications involving magnetic
shields, shielded rooms and Helmholtz coil systems.
Identical in performance characteristics and
specifications, the only difference between the two
instruments is that the DM-2220 has an axial sensor
and the DM-2220-S4 has a transverse sensor. Meas-
urement ranges of 20, 200 and 2000 milligauss are
switch selectable. Although simple and easy to
operate, these instruments provide the stability and
accuracy requried in complex laboratory equipment.
‘The sensing system displays the vector magnetic,
field component along the axis of the probe. The
relationship between the measured field compo-
nent and the total magnetic field is:
B measured = (B total) (cos 6)
where # is the angle between the total field vector
and the sensitive axis of the probe. Since @ can
have any value from zero to 180°, the measured field
component can be either positive or negative.
The front panel display features four large non
blink decimal characters, a polarity indicator to
show the field direction and a decimal point on the
20 and 200 milligauss ranges. The probe, which
uses the patented helical-core sensing element
employed so successfully on satellite magneto-
meters, can be located up to ten feet from the unit.
For remote readout applications, units can be
furnished with an optional BCD output for driving a
digital printer or a remote digital display. An analog
output jack on the rear panel is standard.
