OTOMYCOSIS

Ana and Janna were looking forward for summer. Both of them planned of having a
vacation in Baler, Aurora. On their first day, they enjoyed under the sun and tried every food that
they saw. On their second day, they do different water activities like swimming and surfing.
Apparently on their third day, Ana was having discomfort on her left ear but she did not pay
attention on it. On their third day, there are discharges, pruritus and sever discomfort. They
planned leaving Baler earlier and she consulted her physician and found out that the discharge,
pruritus and severe discomfort was caused by a fungal infection, Otomycosis.
1. Why is that aquatic sports like swimming and surfing would definitely cause a person
to suffer from Otomycosis? Explain.
Aquatic sports like swimming and surfing is associated with Otomycosis for
repeated exposure to water results in removal of cerumen and drying of the external
auditory canal. The absence of ear wax is a predisposing factor of having this type of
fungal infection.
