Register motor vehicle as MIB, South Africa

Initial registration has two phases. The first phase is to register the vehicle on
the system. It is paramount to have all the documentation listed otherwise the
application will be rejected. Note: this is done after the vehicle has been
homologated and the natis number loaded to the system. The second phase is
registering the vehicle via a blue form in the name of the client. If the vehicle is
financed, then the title holder will be the finance institution, i.e. Wesbank. Should
this be the case, the proxy of the Wesbank doing the financing (i.e. Cape Town,
George, etc) needs to sign as well as the proxy of the owner.

1. Phase 1

a. MVR1-MIB form: Application for the initial registration of a motor

vehicle (the name of the MIBs)
b. Builders certificate
c. Manufacturers certificate
d. Weighbridge certificate
e. DataDot certificate copy
f. Proxy ID copy
g. Certificate of compliance
h. CIPRO documents

2. Phase 2

a. Blue form signed by finance institute / owner

b. Yellow form
Phase 2 depends largely on the client and the financing aspect. Best is
to phone the local licensing department and hear exactly which
documents they require and whose signatures are necessary.
