Leader: Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
People: let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely,
and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,
Leader: looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith,
People: who for the sake of the joy that was set before him
endured the cross, disregarding its shame,
and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

When we come to you, O God, we come on bended knee. We know that
when we measure our lives against the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ
our Lord and Savior, we recognize how we have missed the mark and fallen
short of what disciples are to be. You offer us the Holy Spirit to guide and
counsel us, yet we have failed to take full advantage of this precious gift for
the living of true, full, and meaningful lives. Guide us into all righteousness
and once again make us your people. We pray this in the name of the One
who offers the forgiveness that passes all human understanding, Jesus, our
Christ. Amen.
