PROJECT GUIDE
For this project you will work with a group to find evidence from reliable
online sources which support your groups recommendation of a
European Explorer to be included in our schools curriculum.
DRIVING QUESTION:

How can we as middle school students create a presentation to convince


school officials to include explorers in the revised Social Studies curriculum?

GROUP FORMATION STEPS
CREATE EXPECTATIONS
Examples: We will listen to each others ideas, take turns and be respectful.
We will complete our work on time and ask for help when needed.
ESTABLISH PROCEDURES
Examples: What to do when a team member is disruptive or isnt doing their share.
How to fire a team member from the group i.e. one warning, teacher conference,
then removal from group.
ASSIGN ROLES
TEAM SECRETARY: Keeps a record what needs to be done, groups progress
Interacts with the teacher on behalf of the team. Runs team meetings.
Monitors project calendar; keeps track of time spent on each task.
MANAGER:

Makes sure everyone in the group gets a turn. Decides who will do
someones job if they are absent or removed from the group.

TEAM MARSHALL: Enforces team rules using contract and makes sure team is on task.
Issues warnings and asks for teacher involvement to remove
dysfunctional members.
