Applies To: Windows SBS 2008

Notification thresholds specify the quota limit, level of usage, and how notifications are
generated when usage exceeds the defined levels. Windows SBS 2008 sets the following default
notification levels:

Notification threshold warning is set to 85%.

Notifications are generated once every 24 hours, and they can be found in the daily
report.
Note
If Exchange Server is not installed, e-mail notifications are not sent.

An e-mail is automatically sent to the Network Administrator when the quota is

exceeded.

You can make changes to the default threshold notifications in the File Server Resource Manager
(FSRM). The FSRM can send e-mail messages to administrators and specific users, log an event,
run a command or a script, or generate reports.
To add or edit default threshold notifications
1. Open the Microsoft File Server Resources Manager (FSRM). (To open the FSRM, click
Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click File Server Resource Manager).
2. In the navigation pane, click Quota Management, and then click Quotas.
3. In the results pane, click the quota path where you want to view or change the properties.
4. In the Actions pane, click Edit Quota Properties.

Properties section. When you finish, click OK to save your changes.

Change Auto Apply Quota Properties

Applies To: Windows SBS 2008
You cannot modify the individual properties in the auto apply quota. To change individual quota
properties, you must first Create a Quota Template or Edit Quota Template Properties, and then
apply the new or updated quota template to the auto apply quota path. You have the option of
extending the changes to some, all, or none of the existing volume or folder quotas in the auto
apply quota path. This feature simplifies the process of updating the properties of quotas that
were derived from an auto apply quota by providing one central point where you can make all
the changes.
To change auto apply quota properties
1. Open the Microsoft File Server Resources Manager (FSRM). (To open the FSRM, click
Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click File Server Resource Manager).
2. In the navigation pane, click Quota Management, and then click Quotas.
3. In the results pane, click the auto apply quota path where you want to change the
properties.
4. In the Actions pane, click Edit Quota Properties.
5. In the Edit Auto Apply Quota dialog box, select the quota template in the Derive
properties from this quota template list that has the properties that you want to apply to
the auto apply quota path.
6. In the Summary of auto apply quota properties text box, review the auto apply quota
properties, and then click OK to save your changes.
7. On the Update Quotas Derived from Auto Apply Quota dialog box, choose how you
want to apply the changes, and then click OK.
1. If you have quotas that have been modified since they were automatically
generated, and you do not want to change them, select Apply auto apply quota
only to derived quotas that match the original auto apply quota. This option
updates only those quotas in the auto apply quota path that have not been edited
since they were automatically generated.
2. If you want to modify all existing quotas in the auto apply quota path, select
Apply auto apply quota to all derived quotas.
Note
If you choose to apply the changes to all quotas in the auto apply quota path, you
will overwrite any custom quota properties that you created.
3. If you want the existing quotas to remain unchanged but you want to apply the
modified auto apply quota to new subfolders in the auto apply quota path, select
Do not apply auto apply quota to derived quotas.
