Energy consumption in Indonesia increases rapidly parallel with economics

engagement and people growth. To supply energy requirement, renewable

energy source should be developed. Renewable energy potency like solar energy
hasnt been used for big scale although Indonesia has big energy potency.
Indonesia be included on tropical area which is exposed sun radiance almost
year. It means solar energy has good prospects to be developed in Indonesia.

Many potential sources of renewable energy in Indonesia, one of the potential

relatively large are of solar energy sources. Location of Indonesia in the area
equator theoretically will always be exposed to the sun for 10-12 hours a day and
almost the entire territory of Indonesia get the radiation intensity is relatively
evenly distributed. Table 1 shows that the potential of Indonesia from solar
energy sources by 4.8 kWh / m2 / day, equivalent to 112,000 GW1 if all parts of
Indonesia used as a solar power plant. Nevertheless, the high potential the solar
energy has not been fully utilized and until now the use of energy. The new solar
reached 42.78 MW, so the solar energy development needs to be done to
supports energy independence in Indonesia. One of the benefits of energy
development solar is that it can help increase the national electrification ratio
hither to has reached 80% (2013).
Electrification ratio in Indonesia reached 55-60% and almost the entire
rural electrification not far from the center of power plants. Therefore, PLTS which
was built almost at all locations is very appropriate alternatives to be developed.
In the period of 2005-2025, the government has planned to provide 1 million
Solar Home System with a capacity of 50 Wp for low-income and hybrid 346.5
MWp solar power to remote areas. Until 2025 the government plans will be
approximately 0.87 GW of installed solar power capacity. Assuming a market
share of up to 50%, the solar energy market in Indonesia.
