Lopezs Scandal Has The Right Heated Up

Ever since Karina Lopez stated her rational explanation for firing her top worker, Alma Pereda, 10 years
ago, AND Peredas confirmation on Lopezs explanation , the Right has been trying to poke holes in her
story in order to try to bring Lopez down.
Pereda stated in an interview on Monday that she was forced to have an abortion due to DNA tests (later
confirmed to be chorionic villus sampling and Alpha-fetoprotein screening tests) showing that her child
had certain genes that elevated the risk of severe fibromyalgia, a disease that causes widespread chronic
pain in joints and muscles. Some time later, Lopez fired her so she would be compensated and take time
to aid herself. A few minutes (and a few google searches) after the video aired, republicans threw
allegations regarding the disease, stating that it cannot be determined in fetuses and accusing Lopez of
lying.
For confirmation, LLN contacted Dr. Ahedo, one of Peredas doctors. In a brief interview, Dr. Ahedo
stated that after dozens of studies, the fetus had a 98.7 percent chance of developing fibromyalgia.
partly due to genes. Fibromyalgia is not directly caused by genes, but about half by genes and half by
other factors. After asking Pereda if she coincidentally had family with fibromyalgia, she answered that
her grandparents had rheumatoid arthritis and that some of her family does have fibromyalgia.
This terrible and painful disease would have had detrimental effects on the baby if born. Since this was a
severe and extremely rare case, it would have caused pain in response to temperature change, bright
lights, loud noises, odors, medications, and certain foods. It also posed a threat of death.
At the end of the day, this is not a debate on whether Lopez is telling the truth or not. It is pretty evident
through reports, confirmations, and tests that Lopez and Pereda have no reason to lie. The evidence is not
stacked against them. This is about bringing Lopez down and Davis up-and we dont blame them. This is
a common campaign strategy, the job of media and politicians, as ugly as it may be.
