Delivery Masterplan and planing application for new

residential moorings
Status Ongoing

Iglu were engaged by Scottish Canals as

part of a team headed by Paton Planning
to develop existing moorings along the
Forth and Clyde and Union Canals, in to
residential moorings. One of the moorings
sites is at Southbank, Kirkintilloch, along
the Forth and Clyde Canal.
The proposals are for eight new permanent
residential moorings and a mooring for a
local shuttle boat drop-off. In addition the
canal edge has been redeveloped as part
of a new residential development by Trust
Housing Association, including a new access
road, drop off zone and new landscape
works.
In addition existing facilities such as the
timber pontoons and footpaths will be
upgraded and enhanced with new surfacing
and edging. Waterside planting will be
rationalised and improved as well as new
storage huts for the proposed residents.
The proposed moorings although simple in
principle have been complex in execution as
the location of the moorings in city centre
sites and established residential areas have
required careful and considered proposals
and engagement.
