Def:-serious condition where the pancreas become inflamed over a short period of
time
-resulting from autodigestion of pancreas by activated pancreatic enzyme
Classify acute pancreatitis
Mild

Moderate
Severe

-no organ failure


-no local or systemic
complication
-transient organ failure
-persistent organ failure

Clinical features
1.severe epigastric pain radiating to back
2.loss of appetite
3.respiratory distress
4.peritonitis,hiccups
5.cyanosis
6.grey turners sign (hemorrhagic if flanks)
7.cullens sign (hemorrhagic of umbilicus)
8.grunwald sign (large bruises due to toxic lesion of vessels)

Causes of pancreatitis

-fat necrosis
-pregnancy

1.plain x-ray of chest and abdomen
2.imaging
-ultrasound
-CT
3.serum amylase
4.peritoneal lavage
5.blood test
Treatment
1.conservative treatment
2.R regimen
-relieve pain (analegics/NSAIDs)
-rest the pancreas
-resist enzymatic activity
-rest bowel
-resuscitation
-respiratory support
3.operative treatment
-endoscopic papillectomy
-pancreatic debridment
-internal drainage of pancreatic pseudocyst)
