Innovation and Change in Education - Leadership.


The Change Leader Questions.
Michael Fullan (2001) suggests that there are 5 essential aspects that characterize
change leaders today. They are:

Knowledge creation and sharing
Coherence making

Select two of these essential aspects and explain them in detail using an example
related to educational leadership in schools.
a) Aspect 1: Moral purpose
Moral purpose is when a leader has a social responsibility to others and the
environment, in which he/she aspires to make a positive difference in
students lives, have sustainable improvement in their school and the
environment. For example, the principal would involve the teachers in
monitoring student learning to reduce the gap between high and lowperforming students.
b) Aspect 2: Knowledge creation and sharing
Creating and sharing knowledge support in having an effective leadership in
the school, learning communities and relationship are essential for sharing
and creating knowledge. In which sharing knowledge with each other support
in having sustainable growth and change in the school. For example, the
principal would share her/his knowledge about education with the teachers
and to encouraging them in doing an action research that would benefit them
as teachers.

Think of a person that you know or knew who you considered to have the qualities
of a good leader. They dont have to be a Principal; they can have any role.
Describe who they are and two qualities they have/had and how they used these
that you considered necessary for effective leadership for change and sustainable
improvement.

As an example of a leader I always choose my aunt. Eman Almatrooshi, since


I was a child I have seen her work hard to achieve high standard in
everything that she faces. Recently, she become the leader of the royal court
solicitor team. She reached her dream by working hard and she have
leadership skills that qualified her to be a leader. For example, she always

listens to people and tried to solve the problems. Moreover, she has visions
and she set her expectations for the team.
