In the ancient world, the miniskirt was a garment worn
by men. In the 60s, Mary Quant made the miniskirt
fashionable for women, using design from Andr
Courrges, but making his skirts even shorter.

A provocation
Many people considered the new garment as a kind of
provocation and disrespectfulness, but for others it was an
expression of womens self-confidence that grew by freeing
themselves from traditional and antiquated views concerning
the role of women. In 1966, Mary Quant was even honoured
with the Order of the British Empire.

Hoy da ! Caderas al aire y baggy!!!

A great success
Her reinvention became a great success and was
predominantly adapted by young people who identified
themselves a lot with this new trend. Soon it took over to
women of any age and any social class. It became suitable
wear for any event and even the Royal Family allowed
miniskirts that ended exactly 7 centimeters above the knee.
The shortest miniskirts appeared in 1969 when they were
so short that you could already see the underwear of the
women.

Hello everyone! Ive never had to wear a uniform at school, but I know I liked seeing students
wearing theirs when I visited England. It looked like they belonged to a group; you could
clearly identify them on the streets for example.
I dont know if wearing a uniform has anything to do with elegance Maybe it does? Or with
respect, the sense of belonging or equality?

HIJOS DEL FUTURO

By Amanda Bazabas, 4me2 ,Martinique
Ese mundo loco
nos lleva en su destruccin
pero tenemos una solucin
para que no nos lleve con l:
No contaminar ms
No despreciarlo ms.
Nosotros somos los hijos del futuro
Respetemos nuestro planeta!

Esperanza para un mundo loco

Por Lauriane REGINA, 4me2 Martinique
Vivimos en un mundo loco pero nosotros,
o nuestras buenas ideas, podemos cambiarlo
o mejorarlo.
As que, para un mundo mejor debemos cuidar
nuestra manera de utilizar la electricidad,

el agua, los alimentos. Tambin, debemos

ayudar a nuestros vecinos
Espero que este mundo sea mejor en el
futuro. En mi sueo, vivimos en un mundo
sin hambre, sin pobreza, sin enfermedades,
sin violencia, sin injusticia

Wish there was more
time to live emotions
Marilena Placido, ITALY

Our planet has been much abused in the last

century, industrialization was the engine of economic
development but certainly they didnt think at that
moment how this process damaging was. Even our
health is at risk both in terms of physically and mentally.
Over the past four decades, the number of people who
have symptoms from stress have increased by 76%.
I think there is no more time to live really the life you
spend your life trying to create as much as possible
without thinking that you wont have time to enjoy what
you are creating. Our relationships are becoming sterile
and lack of emotions, we are reduced to text messaging
and email, we have lost our habit of talking, looking into
our eyes.
I wish in my future there was more time to create
relationships, less pollution and more time to spend with
my family and my friends.
Hope for my dreams,
Jordan Melidor-Fuxis, Martinique

Maybe I am not so optimistic about my personal life but on
the other hand I am not completely pessimistic about the
future of our planet. I know we have many problems such
as environmental pollution, global warming and nuclear

these problems to us, it will bring the solution to these
problems too. For instance: by developing new technologies
such as electrical vehicles clean energy. We will be able
to diminish the level of environmental pollution and maybe
stop global warming. But unfortunately I am not optimist
about the nuclear weapons; probably world nations will
not give up nuclear weapons. On the contrary they will
produce more sophisticated nuclear arsenals in the future.

Learning from the past

Freedom
for the future
Freedom is so important.
We never really think
about it. But imagine a
world where you couldnt
just say what you think,
where you couldnt tell
everyone what you see,
where you could be ar-
rested immediately, with-
out reason or process.
Imagine a world where
all your freedom would
be taken away. Unbeliev-
able, isnt it?
In our city, Hardenberg, a
monument was revealed.
It was in memory of the
several things that played
in the II World War. The is-
sues were freedom, loss,
resistance and grief.

I wrote a poem for the rev-

elation. I put it below. I had
to read it out in front of 150
people with the monument
behind me. I got nice feed-
back from everyone. Eve-
ryone liked it very much. I
hope you like it too!

Why were people detained?

Why were people tortured?
Why were people killed?
Why were Jews gassed?
Its unbelievable, isnt it?
That someone thinks to have to right
to steal a life?
But it happened!
Here as well, about 70 years ago.

First we decided
to introduce ourselves to
each other through cuisine.
Each country brought a little
something for everybody to
get the taste of their culture.
The main point of the late
evening was a role play of the
very famous Im flying Jack!
scene from the movie Titanic.
All students, previously
divided into international
groups of 11, received the
scripts in order to translate
them into their own languages
and present in to the
audience. It was brilliant to
see the scene enacted in 10
different languages!

BAPTISING to the sea PRESENTATION EVENING
Thanks to Ms Noriko Osaka we had a unique opportunity
to taste a bit of a Japanese culture. Ms Osaka introduced
everybody to the basics of Japanese language and gave a
short presentation on traditional Japanese dance, which
everyone practiced around the table on which Ms Osaka was
standing.

Later, students from Vechtdal College acquainted all

partners with their country during an interactive quiz about
Holland.

The final part of the evening were the presentations.

The idea behind it was to present the countries in a least
encyclopedic way. The students showed three things they
were proud of as well as three they were not so proud of,
so everybody could feel the young spirit of the nations. The
second part of the presentation was short, simple but funny-
each country was to write the very first word that associates
with the rest of the participating nations so we all could see
the power of stereotypes.

Last evening was a rather relaxing one. Everybody

could taste Polish traditional cuisine and the most frequent
question was how do you call that thing pointing at
bigos, smalec and kiszone ogrki. During the barbecue Mrs.
Wilk, headmistress of the Polish school, presented delegations
with a commemorative plaque to remind everybody of the
time spent in Poland. Later that evening there was a Disco for
all of the participants of the camp but the spirit of integration
was still to come: Karaoke appeared to be the united effort.

Polish devils. Below, run for Tobasco.

On the left, Neptune and Prosperine.

This evening was a traditional Polish test for our

guests. Each country had to prove if they were worthy. Led by
Neptune and his wife Proserpine, all students made their way
for the obstacle course. After completing many spine-chilling
and mouth burning tasks, each country had to make Neptune
and his wife happy with a short but extremely entertaining
performance. The final quest was to kiss a beheaded herring
resting on Proserpines knee. In the end every contestant Party time
received a certificate to commemorate the event.
