FINAL PROJECT FOR PETROPHYSICS 2016

The Final Project consists of a full petrophysical analysis of the well ADP 2011 Test well. The
digital data and a print of the log data are given. The interval to be interpreted is 1530 to 1710
meters measured depth. For the sake of this exercise we will assume that the well is vertical and no
TVD corrections are necessary.
1. Load the ASCII data into a New Well in IP.
2. Plot the basic log curves and compare to the log print. This is for quality control. Once
happy with the data quality proceed with the computations.
3. Using the temperature data and total depth calculate a temperature gradient.
4. Calculate Vsh by various single curve and double curve methods and generate a final Vsh

curve for the remaining computations.

From a crossplot of the density and neutron logs determine what the formation lithology is.
Using the density and neutron logs compute a gas and shale corrected porosity curve.
Using the porosity calculated in 6, calculate Rw.
Use this value of Rw and a suitable equation to compute Sw.
Determine suitable cut-offs to differentiate net sand and apply them and generate tables

reservoir properties for each of the zones of interest.

10. Load the same ASCII file into an EXCEL spread sheet.
11. Carry out a Quick Look evaluation using the QL Dual Water method and calculating Vsh
using the GR curve only.
12. Compare the values of average porosity and water saturation over the 3 zones calculated in 9,
above.
13. Write a Final Petrophysical Report outlining all of the above calculations.
14.
Include in the report a section giving a comparison of the results of each zone of
interest calculated in IP versus those calculated in EXCEL. Explain briefly (100words) the
differences between the two calculations.
