Post Lesson Reflection

1. The lesson objectives were to be able to recognize a polynomial, to be able to

define and show the GCF of a polynomial, and to be able to factor
polynomials. The first two objectives were met and the third was not.
Because the students had less prior knowledge then I had predicted, I spent
more time on GCF and polynomials and was unable to finish the factoring
portion. However, I think the students clearly understood GCF and
polynomials since I had spent more time on this. This was evident because
before I moved on I had the students shout out answers and most of the
students shouted out the correct answers showing their comprehension.
2. If were to change this lesson I would have ended the class a little bit better
on a finished conclusion instead of in the middle of having them solve a
problem. I wish I would have planned less material to cover, so that I was
able to feel like I finished all of it. I also wish I would have been able to teach
them how to multiply binomials before teaching them to factor, however, I
know that it is not my class so I have no control over that. I would have made
the questions on the warm-up easier if I had a better understanding of where
their prior knowledge was at. I also wish I had organized the warm-up to start
with the easiest questions and work towards the harder questions.
3. I envision the next lesson to be factoring again with but this time with special
products (ax-b)^2 or (ax+b)^2 or (ax-b)(ax+b). Shirley Martinson also said
that she was fine if any day I just wanted to walk up to the board and teach
based on her pre-made PowerPoints and worksheets so its possible that may
be my next lesson too.
