Merritt hosts EdCamp

Sheryl Ponce
Staff Writer

In a new format for teachers

professional development, Merritt Public School was host to
around 65 individuals Saturday
in what is called EdCamp. The
day started with participants
deciding on topics they would
like to learn more about and
then they developed sessions for
the day.
EdCamps are free for all
attendees and focus only on
learning, feeling free to express

commercial vendors. They are
hosted by a local organization
or individual and made up of
sessions created in conjunction
with participant interests.
With increasing interest in
Merritts one to one student
iPads and their use of iTunes U,

Superintendent Jeff Daugherty

decided to bring the event to
their campus. Teachers from
across the state were able to
ask questions and formulate sessions that particularly intrigued
them.
The Merritt High School Tech
Team was on hand to conduct
sessions for educators from a
student perspective. They were
able give them insight to how
they help not only teachers and
students but also members of
the Merritt community.
Some of the participants came
to EdCamp because of the format and were curious as to how
the process worked.
The format of the EdCamp
was the main draw and seeing
what it was all about. I might
come back and bring other
teachers with me, Shawn Sager

Very few schools from
