Slide 5: Why I chose Hyperlipidemia
Hyperlipidemia interests me because my family has a history of Cholesterol problems
Slide 6: Treatment Options for Hyperlipidemia
There are two treatment options which would be Statin and PCSK9, also there is the
possible solution of just eating better
Slide 7: Statin Treatment Pros
Statin can prevent more blockage from being created in your blood vessels and prevent
future heart attacks.

Slide 8: Statin Treatment Cons

Statin treatment has been the go to treatment to lower cholesterol but it doesnt reduce it
enough in 1/5 of people
Additionally, some people are unable to take Statin because of its side affects, muscle
pain, liver damage, or leading to diabetes.
Slide 9: How Statin treatment works
They block a resource in your body which is used to create cholesterol.
Statins also absorb cholesterol deposited in your artery walls causing plaque and
disrupting flow.
Slide 10: PCSK9 treatment pros
PCSK9 inhibitors are antibodies that are monoclonal.
Convertase subtilisin kexin 9 helps create healthier arteries, fewer heart attacks and
strokes, as well as reduces cholesterol based diseases.
Slide 11: PCSK9 treatment cons
However, this treatment is very expensive, a one year treatment could be upwards of
$12,000.
These drugs are still experimental since the trials havent been published yet.
Slide 12: How PCSK9 treatment works
They target a specific protein inside of the liver and render it useless by blocking the
creation of it
It knocks out the proprotein called convertase subtilisin kexin 9 which significantly
reduces the amount of low density lipoproteins in the bloodstream of the body

Slide 13: Demonstration video of how the treatments work

I have determined the website I am going to use to create the demonstration and have
