The document provides instructions for implementing a task to observe transitions during the school day. It instructs the student to:
1. Discuss the task with their teacher to arrange an appropriate time.
2. Make a list of likely transitions and strategies teachers may use, using Table 3 as a template.
Whilst implementing, the student should create a table to:
1. List observed transitions and the strategies used by teachers to facilitate them.
2. Comment on the success of strategies in promoting positive behavior and minimizing challenging behavior.
3. Suggest how transitions could be modified to further promote positive behavior.

1. Discuss the task with your teacher and arrange and an appropriate time in which to implement it. 2. Prior to conducting this task, Make a list of transitions you are likely to observe during the school day and the type of strategies that the teacher may apply to facilitate them use table 3 to record your answers. Table 2 is provided to you as an example.
Whilst implementing the Task:
Create a table such as Table 3 below to:
List the type and function of the transitions that you observe during the school day. Identify the strategies that are used by your MST to facilitate these transitions. Comment on the success of these strategies in terms of both promoting positive behaviour and minimizing the incidence of challenging behaviour. Make practical suggestions about how these transitions could be modified in order to further promote positive behaviour and minimize the incidence of challenging behaviour.
Managing a transtion
Suggestions for improvement
Ask the children to clean
after an activity.
Be consistent. Always tidy
up before going onto the mat.
Bring the children to the
mat and perform transitions activity like clap hands or sing a song.
