The OFDM Simulation channel parameters are given below:

Standard: WiMAX 802.16e (DL-PUSC Scheme)

Channel Bandwidth: 20 MHz
Modulation type: BPSK
FFT size: 2048
CP length : 256
No. of Sub carriers used: 1440
No. of Pilot carriers used per symbol: 240
No. of Data carriers used per symbol: 1440
No. of Null Sub carriers: 368
No. of Null Sub carriers-left (Nleft): 183
No. of Null Sub carriers-center (Ndc): 1
No. of Null Sub carriers-right (Nright): 184

The WiMAX is an internet communications protocol specifically designed to

provide internet access across long wireless communication links. The WiMAX
uses sub-carriers in three ways- data subcarriers for data transmissions, pilot subcarriers for channel estimation and synchronization and null subcarriers as guard
bands. The cyclic prefix is selected based upon the symbol time and guard time.
The guard period G, usually 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 defines CP = G. Tb. Here the value
chosen according to standard, and is 256.
For a channel Bandwidth 20 MHz

The total number of subcarriers 2048

Subcarrier spacing 11.16 KHz
Symbol time 100.8 s
Guard time 11.2 s

The OFDM block diagram with IFFT/FFT implementation from figure 12.7, from
Wireless Communications by Andrea Goldsmith is employed for simulation of
AWGN, Multipath channels. The simulations are averaged over a 1000 blocks.

1&2. The AWGN channel is simulated and the BER plot for the BPSK modulation
schemeis as shown below

3. The multipath channels are simulated for Indoor and street to street
WINNER/ITU models for channel B based on the relative power and delay
provided using BPSK modulation scheme.

4. The multipath channels are simulated for Indoor and street to street
WINNER/ITU models using QPSK and 16 QAM modulation schemes. The QPSK plot
is shown below:

16 QAM:

5. Adaptive modulation A look table for threshold SNR for different modulation
schemes of BPSK, QPSK, 8-PSK, 32-QAM and 64-QAM is created for the required
bit error rate of10 . The modulation scheme is changed when the SNR drops
before the threshold level.
The threshold SNR is calculated using the equations:

For M 4 and 0 SNR 30:

The Spectral efficiency for Indoor and street to street WINNER/ITU models is
plotted below:
