12. WYNK: Wynk Limited is a subsidiary wholly owned and operated by Bharti
Airtel. Wynk offers content including music, movies, and games specifically
designed for smartphone users. The flagship products of this company include
Wynk Music for Android, Windows & iPhone; Wynk Movies for iPhone & Android,
and Wynk Games for Android
13. Sponsorship:
a) On 9 May 2009 Airtel signed a major deal with Manchester United. Because of
the deal, Airtel gets the rights to broadcast the matches played by the team to
its customers.
b) Bharti Airtel signed a five-year deal with ESPN Star Sports to become the title
sponsor of the Champions League Twenty20 cricket tournament. But now the

deal is terminated and Karbonn Mobiles is sponsoring Champions League


Twenty20 cricket.
c) Airtel, also signed a deal to be title sponsor the inaugural Formula One Indian
Grand Prix during the 2011 season.
d) Airtel, signed a deal to be title sponsor the I-League for 201314 I-League.

14. Signature tune: The signature tune of Airtel is composed by Indian
musician A. R. Rahman. The tune became hugely popular and is the world's most
downloaded mobile music with over 150 million downloads
15. Green initiatives:
a) Bharti Infratel is the only telecom tower company, which has installed almost 3
MWT of solar capacity on their network, generating more than 5 million units of
electricity every year. The Green Towers P7 program is scoped for 22,000 tower
sites.
Received 'Green Mobile Award ' at the GSMA Mobile World Congress at
Barcelona and was also awarded the 2010 innovative infrastructure company of
the year award at the CNBC Infrastructure Awards for this groundbreaking
initiative.
Bharti remains the first company in the world to introduce the practice of
sharing of passive infrastructure by collaborating with their competition to share
mobile towers and to reduce the collective carbon footprint of the industry. This
has become a subject of case studies in institutions including the Harvard
Business School
16. Net neutrality:
In April 2015, Airtel announced the "Airtel Zero" scheme. Under the scheme, app
firms will sign a contract and Airtel will provide the apps for free to its customers.
The reports of Flipkart, an e-commerce firm, joining the "Airtel Zero" scheme
drew negative response. People began to give the one-star rating to its app on
Google Play. Following the protest Flipkart decided to pull out of Airtel Zero. The
e-commerce giant confirmed the news in an official statement, saying, "We will
be walking away from the ongoing discussions with Airtel for their platform Airtel
Zero.
17. Recent news:
Fined for denying JIO
In October 2016, India's telecom regulator TRAI recommended imposing a
combined penalty of Rs 3,050 crore on three mobile network operators
Vodafone, Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular for denying interconnection to
Mukesh Ambanis Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJio), the latest entrant into Indias
telecom service. Airtel, he said, would shortly go back to Trai and telecom
department to clear up any confusion on the Point of Interconnections issue,
adding that the company is confident that they will take an objective view on
the matter.
4G launched in 120 towns in Uttarpradesh and few cities in Bihar
Tackling JIO
a) Intensifying the war against Reliance Jio, telecom player Bharti Airtel on
Wednesday rolled out a 10 GB data offer plan for Rs 259 for consumers buying
a new 4G mobile device. We are proud to have pioneered 4G network for users

in India. This invitational offer has been designed for our data savvy customers
who can now experience high speed broadband on Airtels 4G network with their
new devices, Ajai Puri, Director Market Operations, Bharti Airtel, said. Airtel 4G
is currently available in 18 circles across India vs JIOs coverage in all 22 circles in
India.
b) Bharti Airtel has announced the launch of a new version of its MyAirtel App,
which promises the best of web to users for all their mobile application needs. In
addition to selfcare features, the new MyAirtel App now features an Airtel Apps
section which brings the entire collection of mobile apps together. Juggernaut
(free books), Wynk (Music, Movies, Games), Airtel dialer and cloud.
c) Airtel also reported a drop in second-quarter profit due to higher costs and
said competition from a new carrier led to slow growth in the mobile business.
