Purpose:
This Method statement provides the sequence and methodology that will be
used for
Installation, testing and commissioning of Fire Alarm System
in order to achieve compliance with the contract specification and
Drawings.

Installation, testing and commissioning of Fire Alarm System detailed on
contract drawing and approved shop drawings.

Responsibility:
In-Line with Project Organization chart and responsibilities explained in
our Quality plan, the following staff will be responsible to carry out the
installation process from start to
Completion
5.1 Project Manager
The Project Manager will have full authority and overall responsibility to
manage, supervise. He will Control the works and will have direct
responsibility for ensuring safe working
practices and compliance with
regulatory authoritys requirements. Co-ordinate with the engineers and
the Employer Representative for execution of the Contract Scope of
works. Implement the project quality systems to be the satisfaction of the
project requirements. Review changes and variations to evaluate impact
of those on time and schedule.
5.2 Construction Manager
Responsible to ensure that all works are carried-out as per the
specifications, approved shop drawings and Method Statement as per the
manufacturer instructions and
coordinated with other works.
Provide solution to issues that may take place during the
installation
process.

5.3 Project Engineer


Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all works are carried out
as per the
specifications, approved shop drawings and Method
Statements as per the manufacturers instructions and coordinated with
other works.
5.4 QA/QC Engineer
Responsible to monitor the work Quality on site with all associated
aspects such as but not limited to quality of material arriving to site prior
to installation, installation methodology and procedure and carrying-out
initial inspections for completed works prior to submit
official request
for final inspection by the Engineer.
5.5 Site Engineer

The Site Engineer shall co-ordinate site activities and provide


supervision to the workers executing the job online in-line with the
approved work schedule and sequence of work
Shall liaise with site representatives of employer and contractor and
co-ordinate safety procedures with site supervisors and site foremen.
Shall Co-ordinate and explain the work to be carried out to the
Supervisors / Site
Foreman.
Ensure the compliance of works with the related approved Quality
Control Procedure and co-ordinate with the Contractor QA/QC Engineer
to advise for the areas to be
issued for inspection.

5.6 Safety Engineer/Officer


The safety is responsible for everyone.
The Safety Engineer/Officer is responsible for ensure that all Health and
Safety
Regulations and Requirements are implemented on
site.
Conduct Tool Box Talk to all site workers and supervisors prior to work
commencement on site and attendance sheet must be signed by the all
attendees.
Perform site Safety Risk Assessment to identify hazards prior to work
commencement on site.
Responsible for carrying out training, monitoring the work activities,
carrying out
inspections and reporting to the Principal
contractor safety department and carrying out accident and incident
investigations.
5.7

Site Supervisors and Site Foremen

The project team of experienced Supervisors and Foremen shall ensure the
quality of the installation work carried out, and shall also ensure that it is as

per the latest approved construction shop drawing issued for installation and
according to instructions received from the Site Engineer.
To provide direct supervision to workers on site during the installation process
of Fire Alarm System
To ensure that he has adequate resources of machinery, labour and materials
to carry out all the activities efficiently and to discuss with the Site Engineer.
To ensure safe and clean working environment.

6.

Installation Procedure:
6.1

Preliminary Activities /Approvals


6.1.1 Submit to the Engineer for approval the materials,
equipments and shop drawings to be used for the Installation,
Termination and Testing of Fire Alarm System Submit for
approval Method Statement & Risk Assessment.
6.1.2 Identify quantity and ensure all risks are managed in this
method statement and
residual risks are acceptable.

6.2

Storage:
6.2.1 Fire alarm system shall be inspected upon receipt at site for damages
and compliance with the approved submittals and Single line
Diagram.
6.2.2 Fire alarm system found with transportation damages shall be
recorded and notified to the concern party for further action.
6.2.3 Fire alarm system shall be covered with thick polythene sheets to
protect from dust and moisture.
6.2.4 Raise MIR for the Material arrived at Store along with proper
documents.
6.2.5 All materials received at site shall be inspected by QC Engineer and
ensured that the materials are as per approved material submittal.
6.2.6 Any discrepancies, damages etc.. Shall be notified to stores for
further action.
6.2.7 Ensure MIR documents are being approved.
6.2.8 Material found not suitable for the project is to be removed from site
immediately based on MIR.
6.2.9 Cables shall be stored with the factory packing on the flat surface.
6.2.10The environmental conditions and documentation shall be as per the
methods described in the relevant documents.
6.2.11It is important that in case of electronic boards, proper handling care
shall be taken. All such components are shipped with static protection
covering, which should not be
removed until the device is
ready for testing & commissioning. If this cover is removed for
inspection, no parts in the circuitry should be touched and the cover
should be replaced after inspection.
6.2.12 The max operating temperature and humidity conditions shall be
observed at the place of material storage.

6.3

Installation of Fire alarm system

6.3.1 Ensure approved documents like approved shop drawing, electrical


room layout
approved load schedules are available with the
installation team.
6.3.2 Fire Alarm Control Panel shall be installed as per the specification,
approved shop drawing, manufacturer recommendations and Local
Civil Defence requirement.
6.3.3 Approved Model, Size & Type of Fire alarm Control Panel shall be
installed as per approved shop drawings.
6.3.4 Coordination with other MEP shall be done for installing Fire Alarm
Control Panel.
6.3.5 Check the Wall surface is ready to install Fire Alarm Control Panel.
6.3.6 Orientation of Fire Alarm Control Panel shall be checked before and
after installation.
6.3.7 Fire Alarm Control Panel shall be installed directly inside the block
wall as per approved shop drawing and site conditions.
6.3.8 Fire Alarm Control Panel Height from finish floor shall be maintained
as per approved drawings.
6.3.9 Raise request for inspection for installation of Fire Alarm Control
Panel, by Consultant.
6.3.10Upon the inspection and approval of installation of Fire Alarm Control
Panel, Cables shall be installed as per specification and
manufacturer recommendations.
6.3.11Approved Trunking shall be installed above the false ceiling and Fire
Alarm Cables will be drawn through concealed PVC conduits to the
Fire Alarm Control Panel.
6.3.12All knockouts made on the panel covers shall be provided with PVC
adaptor to avoid contact of cables with sharp edges of the
knockouts.
6.3.13All Fire Alarm Control panel shall be provided with proper earthing
connections as per manufacturer recommendations.
6.3.14Doors of all Fire Alarm Control Panel shall be earthed.
6.3.15Identification shall be done for Fire Alarm Control Panel as per
specification with approved materials.
6.3.16Raise request for inspection for installation of Fire Alarm Control
Panel along with termination, by Consultant.
6.4

INSTALLATION OF PHOTO ELECTRIC SMOKE DETECTORS

6.4.1 Photo Electric Smoke Detectors shall be installed as per the specification,
approved shop drawing, manufacturer recommendations and Local Civil
Defence requirement.
6.4.2 Approved Model & Type of Photo Electric Smoke Detectors shall be installed as
per approved shop drawings and manufacturer recommendations.
6.4.3 Coordination with other False Ceiling Layout shall be done for installing Photo
Electric Smoke detectors.
6.4.4 Check the False ceiling is ready to install Photo electric Smoke Detectors.
6.4.5 Photo Electric Smoke Detectors shall be installed directly on the false ceiling
tiles / Gypsum ceiling boards by using PVC butterfly rowel plug as per approved
shop drawing.

6.4.6 False ceiling tiles / gypsum board shall be marked and drilled with appropriate
drill bit to suit the PVC butterfly rowel plug to match the Base of Photo Electric
Smoke detector mounting holes.
6.4.7 Raise Request for inspection of installation of Photo Electric Smoke Detectors,
by
Consultant.
6.5

INSTALLATION OF HEAT DETECTORS


6.5.1 Heat Detectors shall be installed as per the specification, approved
shop drawing, manufacturer recommendations and Local Civil Defence
requirement.
6.5.2 Approved Model & Type of Heat Detectors shall be installed as per
approved shop drawings and manufacturer recommendations.
6.5.3 Coordination with other False Ceiling Layout shall be done for
installing Heat detectors.
6.5.4 Check the False ceiling is ready to install Heat Detectors.
6.5.5 Heat Detectors shall be installed directly on the false ceiling tiles /
Gypsum ceiling boards by using PVC butterfly rowel plug as per
approved Shop Drawing.
6.5.6 False ceiling tiles / gypsum board shall be marked and drilled with
appropriate drill bit to suit the PVC butterfly rowel plug to match the
Base of Heat detector mounting holes.
6.5.7 Raise Request for inspection of installation of Heat Detectors, by
Consultant.

6.6

INSTALLATION OF DUCT SMOKE DETECTORS


6.6.1 Duct Smoke Detectors shall be installed as per the
specification,
approved
shop
drawing,
manufacturer
recommendations and Local Civil Defence requirement.
6.6.2 Approved Model & Type of Duct Smoke Detectors shall be
installed as per approved shop drawings and manufacturer
recommendations.
6.6.3 Coordination with other HVAC Ducting Layout shall be done
for installing Duct Smock Detectors.
6.6.4 Adhesive backed drilled template which is supplied by the
manufacturer will be installed on the exact location where the
duct smoke detectors to be installed.
6.6.5 Upon installation of template, ducts will be drilled by using
appropriate diameter for the mounting holes and air sampling
tubes and exhaust tubes.
6.6.6 Air sampling tube shall be inserted to the according to duct
sizes through the entire width of the duct.
6.6.7 Rubber stopper shall be installed end of the sampling tube
as per manufacturer recommendations.
6.6.8 Insert the exhaust tube in a way that slanted portion of the
tube is oriented away from airway.
6.6.9 Flexible conduit will be installed in the using the knock outs
provided in the detector housing to pass the cables.
6.6.10 Wiring shall be done as per manufacturer recommendations.
6.6.11 Raise Request for inspection for installation of Duct Smoke
Detectors, by Consultant.

6.7

INSTALLATION OF BEAM DETECTORS


6.7.1
Beam detectors shall be installed as per the specification,
approved shop drawing, manufacturer recommendations and Local
Civil Defence requirement.
6.7.2
Approved Model & Type of Beam Smoke Detectors shall be
installed as per approved shop drawings and manufacturer
recommendations.
6.7.3
Coordination with other MEP Services shall be done for
installing Beam Detectors.
6.7.4
Ensure location, elevation of Beam detectors are as per
approved shop drawings and site locations.
6.7.5
Transmitter and Receiver of the Beam detectors shall be
installed in same elevation opposite to each other.
6.7.6
Raise request for inspection of installation of Beam
Detectors, by Consultant.

6.8

INSTALLATION OF MANUAL PULL STATIONS


6.8.1
Manual Pull Stations shall be installed as per
the
specification,
approved
shop
drawing,
manufacturer recommendations and Local Civil
Defence requirement
6.8.2
Approved Model & Type of Manual Pull Stations
shall be installed as per approved shop drawings and
manufacturer recommendations.
6.8.3
Coordination with other MEP Services shall be
done for installing Manual Pull Stations.
6.8.4
Manufacturer recommended back box shall be
installed for installing Manual Pull Station.
6.8.5
Ensure Location and Elevation of Manual Pull
Stations are as per approved shop drawing and site
conditions.
6.8.6
Back plate & Covers of Manual pull stations
shall be installed using appropriate fasteners provided
the manufacturer.
6.8.7
Raise request for inspection of installation of
Manual Pull Station, by Consultant

6.9

INSTALLATION OF FIRE ALARM SPEAKERS


6.9.1
Fire Alarm Speakers shall be installed as per the
specification, approved shop drawing, manufacturer
recommendations and Local Civil Defence requirement.
6.9.2
Approved Model & Type of Fire Alarm Speakers shall
be installed as per approved shop drawings and
manufacturer recommendations.
6.9.3
Coordination with other False Ceiling Layout shall be
done for installing Fire Alarm
Speakers.
6.9.4
Check the False ceiling is ready to install Fire Alarm
Speakers.

6.9.5
Fire Smoke Detectors shall be installed directly on the
false ceiling tiles / Gypsum ceiling boards by using PVC
butterfly rowel plug as per approved shop drawing.
6.9.6
False ceiling tiles / gypsum board shall be marked and
drilled with appropriate drill bit to suit the PVC butterfly
rowel plug to match the Base of Fire Alarm Speaker
mounting holes.
6.9.7
Raise Request for inspection of installation of Fire
Alarm Speakers, by Consultant.
6.10

INSTALLATION OF FIRE ALARM BELLS


6.10.1
Fire Alarm Bells shall be installed as per the
specification, approved shop drawing, manufacturer
recommendations and Local Civil Defence requirement.
6.10.2
Approved Model & Type of Fire Alarm Bells shall be
installed as per approved shop drawings and manufacturer
recommendations.
6.10.3
Coordination with other MEP Services shall be done
for installing Fire Alarm Bells.
6.10.4
Fire Alarm Bells shall be installed directly on the walls
after finishing the final paints.
6.10.5
Ensure Location & Elevation of Fire Alarm Bells are as
per approved shop drawing and site conditions.
6.10.6
Raise Request for inspection of installation of Fire
Alarm Bells, by Consultant.

7.0Testing And Commissioning Of Fire alarm system

Please refer the attached method statement from the supplies SIBCA,
for the testing Fire alarm system and commissioning.
Once the testing and commissioning of Fire alarm system are
completed as per
SIBCAs method statement and the same
is approved and accepted by all parties the entire system will
be offered for energization to the concerned authority for that
an energization request will be submitted.

8.0 Labour, Plant & Material Requirements


8.0.1

Labour:

High trained Charge Hands and Electrician will be dedicated to carry


out the
installation of Fire alarm system under the
supervision of the project team shown on the project organization
chart in accordance with the approved shop drawings.

Health & Safety Requirements:

All Safety Regulations and requirements as per the project approved


EHSP plan must be implemented and monitored on site at all times
by ---- staff.
Safety induction and training to all involved site staff will be provided
by the main
contractor prior to commencing any activities
on site.
Tool box talk will be provided by safety office to highlight and hazards
or safety
regulations to be followed during the installation of
FIRE Alarm System on site and
attendance singing sheet will
be kept.
All Personal on Site must Wear (PPE) equipments at all times
Ensure proper barricading to the work area with Standard safety
warning signs to be placed all around, visible to the public at any point
where work on site to be performed
The approved Risk Assessment Sheet must be implemented during the
work course on site to prevent or minimize any identified risks during
the execution of the job on site.

Environmental Requirements
In accordance with DGBR and BM Environmental requirements and
instructions related to waste collection & housekeeping on site, ---- will
dedicated the required number of workers to perform the house
cleaning on site at all times and segregate and dispose any waste
materials in-order to maintained a healthy environment during the
installation of Fire alarm system. Workers to Clear all the tools and
equipment after each work shift and ensure all surrounding areas are
free of debris and work area is left in safe condition.

Quality Control Arrangements (Testing, Inspections &
Records):

All Quality control measures and site inspections will be carried out in
accordance with the approved PQ plan
Quality Assurance and Quality control of all aspects of the installation
process must be monitored at all times by future metro QA/QC Engineer
Following the installation of Fire Alarm System, ---- will conduct initial
inspection prior to submit a formal request for inspection (IR) by the
client.
Request for inspection shall be prepared by ----Engineer and shall be
issued to BM for further inspection with Consultant.
------- QA/QC Engineer shall co-ordinate with Client / Consultant to
arrange for site inspection and submit an (IR) 48 hours minimum before
inspection date
