    The Canada Auto Union (Unifor) has picked General Motors as the first company to negotiate a new labor contract with. Unifor chose GM because it has the biggest question mark over future production in Canada, as GM plans to close one of its two Oshawa plants and hasn't committed to new vehicle production beyond 2019. Unifor aims to sign a deal with GM before the current contract expires on September 19th, then will negotiate with Ford and Fiat Chrysler, using pattern bargaining. Unifor wants commitments from the automakers to boost future Canadian production as North American auto sales have risen significantly in recent years.
