A drought occurs when there is a lack of snow and rain causing a dry spell. As
temperatures rise over the years due to climate change there is an increased evaporation of
moisture which causes a longer drought. California has been in an extreme drought for the last
six years became warmer. This affects the residents of California because water demands cannot
be kept up with. This also affects farmers because the water supply is not in sync with crop water
demands. A possible next steps to preserve water is to increase recycling and reuse of water,
including capturing and reusing stormwater and wastewater.
