The distorted sine wave retains the same fundamental frequency as a pure sine wave but contains additional, regular waveforms added to its trace. These added waveforms are at exact integer multiples of the fundamental frequency, known as harmonics, and cause the distorted sine wave to differ in amplitude and shape from a pure sine wave.
