I would vote for:

1. Sardar Patel - Architect of Modern Indian nation. Without Sardar, India
would have been in 50 pieces.
2. Netaji Bose - A great source of inspiration for Indian youth, although I would
argue about his methods.
3. Abdul Kalam - Greatest President India has ever had. A great scientist and a
great human.
4. Swami Vivekananda - Quintessential representative of Indian Culture. I have
seen youth, irrespective of their religion, fall in love with this man's ideas.
5. Dhyan Chand - Greatest Indian sportsman. When you see that India has won
Olympic golds in a world sport and wonder how we got there or wonder why
Hockey is India's national sport, look up to this man. Most underrated Indian
sportsman ever.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhy...
6. CV Raman - One of the greatest Indian scientist and the winner of the
prestigious Nobel Prize for Physics at the time of Einstein, Bohr, Plank and
Marie Curie. Think of all the eminent physicists of that time and image our man
standing tall amidst that stupendous group.
7. Rabindranath Tagore - author of the India's national anthem and first Asian
recipient of the Nobel Prize.
8. Raja Ram Mohan Roy - Maker of Modern India. His social ideas helped
Indian women to get more rights and he helped pave way for better spread of
education in India.
9. B.R. Ambedkar - An inspirational leader for India's downtrodden. One of
India's eminent lawyers and the lead author of the Constitution.

10. Ramanujan - You know Indians are known for mathematics. Thus, we need a
representative of a skill that Indians have mastered since antiquity. Who better
than our own Ramanujam.
Now, we have got people from Sports, Science, Religion and Politics, people North, East,
West and South of India, and people representing various skills that Indians are best known
for.
