Description of the artifact and how it meets the standard and criteria:
Each week, I send a newsletter to the parents/guardians of my students. I send it
weekly to keep them up to date on what we are learning in the classroom and any
upcoming dates that they need to know about. I know that this method is effective
because I asked all parents on Meet the Teacher night, and they all wanted it sent
electronically. I also know that this information is accurate because it is directly related
to what we are learning each week, and I update the information weekly before sending
it out.
Reflection on the artifact:
A weekly newsletter is important because it keeps the parents informed on what we are
doing in the classroom. I knew that I was going to be writing one before I knew that it
was mandatory at Anderson Elementary. In my newsletter, I have the standards that we
will be learning in the week. I also have what specials the students have, upcoming
dates, and any important information that parents need to be aware of. I wanted to
reach as many parents as I could with my newsletter because I want them to be aware
of what is going on. During Meet the Teacher night, I gave a parent survey and one of
the questions asked how they wanted to receive the newsletter; hardcopy, or email. All
of the responses that I read were email, so by sending them in an email, I am effectively
reaching my parents. I am also keeping the information accurate because I check my
standards page and my calendar for the most accurate information for the upcoming
week. On Monday, I send this email to parents, and administrations. I also discuss what
we will be doing throughout the week with the students on Monday. Weekly newsletters
and discussions are important for keeping everyone on the same page.
